This (not from that piece) is one of those charts where I am completely aware of the data but my mental map of how the global economy works still almost refuses to update to the new reality. Because the pace of change has been so rapid.

US administration taunted an ally to fire a head of a public broadcaster and Semafor are like… “wow, you guys are bad at covering Trump…” - that’s not the story here.

Following the alleged arson attack on an international protection accommodation centre last week, I read all of the available 2025 inspection reports for IPAS centres. I found fire-safety concerns were raised in respect of more than 50 accommodation centres.

Almost two years to the day since another cyclist was killed at the intersection at Dolphin's Barn Bridge.

In both instances, the cyclists were killed by a truck.

RIP.

This such a perfect patriotic 🇬🇧 Fleet Street cock-up. It's one thing for a news outlet to be duped by a competent hoaxer. Excruciating, yes, but there's a fairly long history of such fuck ups. But to put out a statement SAYING you'd been hoaxed but you'd actually just emailed the wrong guy?

My Anne Enright interview: “I am fed up saying I have a problem with authority, and that is why I do not write realism. Naturalistic fiction is a lie – and a dull one at that. This is me changing the narrative from your ‘broken’ to my ‘honest’ or even ‘smart’.”
