TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".
Bronze plaque saying "A Letter to the Future. Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it. August 2019. 415ppm CO2"

This one goes perfectly with a character of mine called Nahsha. Not only does she drive a chariot, but she's clawed her way to the most powerful position available to a woman in her Iron Age society. She experienced some terrible things on her way there (and sees more in the future.) #WriteSky

Colleen's dad makes her go fishing at the beginning of the story, and she's not happy about it.

The reservoir was stocked with large-mouthed bass, and someone told her father this was the best time of year to catch them. He hadn’t fished much in the past, but lately he was fascinated and insisted the whole family join him. Jumping out of the car, he pulled fishing rods, nets, and lawn chairs out of the trunk. Her mother set up the chairs and nestled into one with a blanket draped over her lap, while Sheila pranced along the water’s edge. "C'mere, Colleen," her dad commanded, opening a bait box. "Now, this’s the kind the man at the store said would work best for bass," he told her, pulling out a little, plastic, rainbow-colored fish with three-pointed hooks at either end. She quickly tied it onto the line of a pole, her deft hands trained to thread needles, while he struggled with his wide, clumsy fingers to tie his own. Colleen looked over at the other people at the reservoir. A large, middle-aged couple sat in chairs beside a camper van, their poles resting in holders, and their lines lazily hanging in the water. They were sucking soda out of plastic cups the size of buckets while a radio loudly broadcasted a ballgame. Down the shore, a few young men noisily pushed a motorboat into the water from a trailer. After starting the engine, they hooted and yelled before blasting into the middle of the lake, where they started to chug cans of beer.

She's an adolescent, so her life is all about change. And she experiences both the ups and downs of the Wheel many times over during the story.

My MC doesn't deal with illness exactly during the story, but she is prone to motion sickness.

She doesn't complain about it, but she hates that it interferes with her ability to just ride in a car...or a chariot...or fly through the air with a magical being without feeling like she has to barf.

Colleen doesn't think much about the future, because she's 12.

Kids that age don't really think about the future yet. They aren't able to make long term plans, they still live more in the moment.

The most she thinks about the future is wondering if she'll ever find her way back home.
