I found this terribly sad. A young woman with her life ahead of her, and she becomes one of the last American victims of the Long War.

Two people were shot at a gas station in my rural town in Mississippi today.

I guess 500 troops are gonna have to be taken away from their families during the holidays to come occupy my small town now too, huh?

Republicans will blame Democrats for the shooter. Don't let them.

Democrats:
- allowed Afghans to seek refuge after aiding the U.S. and fleeing the Taliban

Republicans:
- approved shooter's refugee status in April 2025
- allowed shooter to access a gun
- placed NG soldiers in the line of fire

DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail
DOGE 'doesn't exist' with eight months left on its charter
U.S. President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency has disbanded with eight months left to its mandate.

He has been giving the same answer for months but he's asked about it every interview. These questions aren't being asked to inform the public. They exist to continually suggest to viewers that Mamdani secretly hates Jews.
WELKER: What is your message to Jewish New Yorkers who feel you won't be tough enough in your response to antisemitism?

MAMDANI: That I am looking forward to being the next mayor and fulfilling the commitment I've made to Jewish New Yorkers to not only protect them but to celebrate and cherish them

MAMDANI: And I just think that there are barriers, barricades, to helping Americans that we can break down
TRUMP: Uh huh
MAMDANI: And breaking down barriers? Reminds me of a certain Broadway show *smiling widely* where they worked together to break a barricade?
TRUMP: *sitting bolt upright* Phantom

Basically! But it's not superficial charm—he has built credibility as a trusted messenger. We know what he stands for and what he stands against. That's rarer than it should be among Dems.
a significant reason Mamdani can get away with this and other Dems can’t is less that he’s charmed Trump and more that he’s charmed you, dear reader, which is why you’re not yelling at him for being a collaborator or an appeaser right now

"We are looking very hard at seizing the means of production, powerfully and strongly being for the workers -- nobody ever said before they are for the workers, but we're very for worker, like nobody has ever been for worker before and we're strongly waging the war on class."
"Well, yes, Mamdani and I have our differences. He's a socialist, they say he's a socialist, and I guess he says so too. A democratic socialist, but a socialist. Meanwhile, I'm busy seizing the means of production, forcing a cultural revolution, cracking down on the intelligentsia ...."

This is why "let's just not talk about race/immigration" has never ever been an option. The only story authoritarians tell is blaming some "other" for all possible ills - if the response to that is change the topic or, worse yet, affirm their thesis - all voters imbibe is division, fear and hate.
this defies parody. also helps explain why Sec Bessent bizarrely blamed immigrants when confronted with a question about high beef prices

This is good and prudent. I would also just note that the U.S. Capitol Police are armed. It implies Democrats are prepared to used armed force to resist unlawful political arrests by the executive branch.
Important: House Dem leaders just said Trump's call for execution of Dems has prompted them to contact US Capitol Police and House Sergeant at Arms to "ensure the safety of these members and their families."

Treat Trump like an unhinged menace. He's weak and in deep political trouble. Don't let up.

We had tons of evidence that stopping MAGA's obviously very extreme insanity on immigration could have been a winning issue for Dems if they'd gone on offense on it in 2024. But now there's hard electoral results, too. More strong datapoints negating the "Dems must move right to win" crowd.
This is pretty amazing. This guy just won a solid victory in Bucks County, PA, one of the most important swing counties in the country, by *explicitly and deliberately* making his race *all about* nationalizing ICE raids. Confirms the point about this now being a winning issue for Dems.

The correct answer to this is "because Republicans don't want to solve your problems. They literally want you to starve and go bankrupt so they can make billionaires even richer."
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"
