If Paramount executives won’t stick up for journalists, ‪Freedom of the Press Foundation‬ will.
Today we notified Shari Redstone and her crew that we’re going to file a shareholder lawsuit against them if they bribe Trump by settling his nonsense lawsuit against CBS.

YES.
A federal judge ordered the nation’s premier health agencies to restore online access to several websites that monitor HIV, health risks for youths and assisted reproductive technologies, which were abruptly taken offline to ensure they complied with Trump’s recent executive order on gender.

According to a 2021 study put out by @counterhate.com 65% of the anti-vax propaganda on Twitter was due to just 12 people.

In an internal study, Facebook found that 111 of their accounts were spreading half of all the anti-vax disinformation on the site.

It takes very few amplifiers.

This book is helpful for understanding the ground rules.

“Three things are necessary for strategic denial to be successful. Disinformation must be created, it must be amplified, and it must be believed… if one’s long-term goal is political or ideological [,] it is necessary to foment distrust.”

This was a quick and interesting read from the perspective of a seasoned librarian. If censorship is at all of interest to you I recommend it.

A survey conducted by @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social in 2022 found that 71% of respondents oppose efforts to have books removed from their local public libraries. (75% D / 70% R / 58% I)

That’s stronger cross-party agreement than those in favor of medical debt forgiveness (67%).

I just learned about the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund— important work in the fight against censorship.
Comics are often the canary in the coal mine for censorship. People don’t see them as “real” literature so when they are banned it doesn’t get the attention that most books do.

Thats why the work the @cbldf.bsky.social does is so important and so difficult.
Thanks for the amazing swag @cbldf.bsky.social!

We appreciate all the great work your team is doing!

Between the election and inauguration I had a conversation with my endocrinologist in which I asked him to change my prescription to no longer indicate treatment for gender dysphoria. He complied, but not without some paternalistic dismissal regarding government access to medical records.

LGBTQIA minors make up 40% of the endangered minor runaway population. They are 120% more likely to be unhoused. They are also uniquely at risk for exploitation and trafficking.

This is breathtakingly evil.
New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

I want to remind you that many Trump voters are effectively illiterate (54% of Americans read at a 6th grade level or lower, and the right skews uneducated), that the opportunity to learn this critical skill was stolen from them, and that pointing fingers will not win the class war.

Follow the money.
New — Some “critical” IRS employees learned today they’re exempt from the deferred resignation program until May 15th, presumably because the administration remembered it’s tax season.
