Indiehacker who’s too lazy to build and too shy to launch. Working on changing both.
Also thinking and writing about 🧠psychology and 💰business.

Thoughts my own.
I haven‘t been very active on #bsky (or anywhere else) the last few days.

As a German whose family history was shaped by not one but TWO dictatorships, I simply cannot believe what is happening in the US and other western democracies.

Hope and compassion to us all.

I‘m using Sveltekit for my current side project, which assumes server-side JS by convention.

Not sure how much longer server-side JS is going to be around for.
If I‘m a quick&dirty Indie Dev, I‘d always go serverless.
For more mature SW, I‘d use a dedicated backend stack.

Thoughts?

When I told people „I now do social media“, the first thing they ask me is my Instagram handle.

I‘m a social media virgin, so I have to ask: is Instagram a serious platform? I‘m interested in programming and business stuff and always thought IG was mostly for selfies and food porn…

Most #indiehacking projects generate no revenue. Same for most #buildinpublic projects.

How do you motivate yourself again and again despite it all?

Are you chasing a dream?
Is this a hobby to you?
Or is your business working good enough?

@myfollower.bsky.social is an interesting project that aims to demonstrate how broken „follow/follow back“ is on #bluesky.

Followers are just how this platform works - but must they be public or is this just a vanity thing?
What if your follower count was only visible to yourself?

In case you weren’t aware: Claude The LLM cannot generate images. It is, however, actually quite strong at generating text-based models and can even visualize them in Mermaid.

If you, like me, like to create visual models to structure your thinking, this might be worth checking out.

Is this the age of Social Media renaissance?

Twitter/X is toxic.
TikTok is a PsyOp.
Facebook is old.
Instagram may be the only popular platform left.

Could this be the time for micro-communities with strong moderation?

Lot‘s of people here working on cool software to make #bluesky even more fun.
I‘ve seen schedulers, analytics and even rudimentary sentiment analysis.

What are the coolest tools for bluesky that you can’t go without?

Most builders I know aren‘t very fond of marketing, myself included.

So I was happy to learn that if you use the proper #buildinpublic tag, your posts will show up on many more people‘s feeds and get likes and maybe followers.

Crazy stuff.

Now go back to building awesome things please.

I still hate marketing so I thought I‘d read about it. Started with „Ogilvy on advertising“.

A little dated, because it was written in the era of print, but many thoughts have stood the test of time.

Now I don’t know what to read next if I want to learn more about marketing.

Any suggestions?

Going to deploy my landing page tomorrow, I think. Vercel's always been my go-to for free deployment.

Any other providers that you prefer?

Why/why not?

Sometimes it is not so much about WHAT you are doing but about the fact that you are doing SOMETHING.

Everybody is talking about how LLMs can make you go from 0 to 1 as developers.

Experienced developers know the huge debt involved that will have to be fixed sometime.

But if AI generated code is in need of fixing then it clearly solved a real problem.

There is beauty in these rapid prototypes

I just gave AstroJS a shot and really like the simplicity of the thing, plus the quality of available templates.
For me, who is absolute rubbish at design, this is heaven!

And also integrates nicely with Sveltekit, which I am just trying out.

MVP will be shipped soon!

Another big client project just came in.

A good day for cash flow, even when it takes further time away from side projects.

Is #indiehacking a waste of time and money?

There are so many smart and talented indiehackers, but very few can make a decent living off their products.

So is indiehacking like looking for gold at the end of a rainbow? Should we stop glamorizing it?

Contrarian thought: some mistakes you have to do yourself, regardless of how many people tell you not to.

Anybody want to buy a small business with me?

Very first, very rough draft of makemedothis.com.

Thoughts? Does anybody actually need this?

Currently reading „Buy then Build“ by Walker Deibel.

He makes quite a strong case for buying a company instead of building from scratch.

Anyone from my network have experience with acquisition entrepreneurship? Would be interested in a chat.

Fixed mindset: „I tried this once and I failed so obviously I cannot do it.“

Growth mindset: „I tried two hundred times and got slightly better each time.“

Guess which mindset makes you successful?

My first 100 followers!

You all probably just came from starter packs, but hey, I got a dopamine hit from seeing that number anyway.

Keep coming, maybe I‘ll do a promotional gift or whatever after 1k followers. That‘s how the cool kids do social media, right?

At this point, Europe feels like it has lost it's spark, mostly administrating what past generations have invented.

But most of the ingredients are there to climb back to the powerhouse of ideas: good public education, good infrastructure, liveable cities.

So what's missing for Europe's comeback?

Those still on Twitter/X:
Are you planning to move fully to #Bsky at some point?

If yes: have you defined for yourself when this will be?

If no: do you plan on being equally active on both platforms?
