Depressing to look back on this thread almost a year later. https://twitter.com/EladNehorai/status/1725619782152806429

Remember that article about Elon Musk's grandfather, who believed in the Great Replacement conspiracy theory and who literally moved to South Africa to get away from Jews and join the apartheid movement in order to lead "White Christian Civilization"?

Seems relevant!...

It has been obvious for ages that Tucker Carlson is antisemitic. He was the one who tried to code Kanye's antisemitism and make it mainstream before it backfired.

He has spread the Great Replacement and many other conspiracy theories. Meanwhile, leaders refused to address it....
This provides incontrovertible proof that Carlson knew Kanye was being antisemitic during the interview.

This means that when Kanye said, “I don't think that they have the ability to make anything on their own,” Carlson KNEW Kanye was talking about Jews.

Americans are generally horrible at understanding the size of marginalized communities.

Most Americans think almost 1 in 3 people are Jewish. Which is… nuts.

We are 2% of Americans. And only .2% of the world.

1000 of us being murdered, thousands injured… that reverberates.

Far right antisemites are using the attack in Israel to spread further antisemitism, go viral, and get paid by Elon Musk's blue check system.

I wouldn't read all this, but if you need evidence of what I'm describing this is just one of many examples.
January 15, 2025 at 2:16 PM
Whatever Elon Musk says about his support for Israel, by destroying X's moderation he has empowered terrorists.

Point being that even those who are willing to overlook Musk's antisemitism due to his positions on Israel should realize what they're dealing with.

None of the threats from the right's antisemitism in America have in any way diminished or changed because of what's happening in Israel.

Just the opposite. They will exploit & use this to divide us, hurt our coalitions, and try to convince the world they aren't vicious bigots.

"Nazis knew killing Jews was wrong" is a hot take even I didn't see coming on this hellsite

It is not "both sides" to care about both Israeli and Palestinian civilians. It is firmly on the one side of morality, humanity, and truth.

It is only "both sides" to say so if you think there is a group of civilians who do not deserve to live.

Among many, the war in Gaza is now being treated like an inevitability. One where even Americans must have total deference to the Israeli government. Where even the way in which the war is conducted is predetermined.

All of this is untrue.

My latest:...

There doesn't seem to be confirmation of the "babies beheading" story. It is largely based on one reporter's claim, and the rest of the supposed back up is people lumping in reports of beheadings and babies killed.

It doesn't change much, but be careful before sharing stories.

The horrors we are seeing & learning about in Israel do not justify what we are already seeing & hearing from the Israeli response.

Using horrors to justify horrors, purposefully making civilians suffer as collective punishment is not self-defense, no matter what people claim.

The core of the world's larger fight is against fascism and theocracy.

If you claim to be against Hamas but support fascism, you are just hoping for your own terrorist government for yourself.

You may not be that far in yet. But that's the end logic of all these groups.
January 15, 2025 at 2:16 PM
It is very telling that Rubio is willing to grant humanity to the children, elderly, and women of Israel but not those of Gaza.

This is the logic of genocide. Horror for one group, hate for another.

This is the right's worldview generally, and why we can't fall for it.

I do not know one Jew who is more than one step removed from this tragedy. We are not a big group of people, and this level of devastation has in some way affected this all.

We are not united in ideology, nor should we be. But we are united in our pain.

Am Yisrael Chai.

Hamas is in many ways an extension of Iran's government. A government that came into power partly because progressives thought they could ally with theocrats to create a just revolution.

People would do well to see the parallels.

A good podcast on it:...

Saturday was an indictment of all Netanyahu has done. His government invested so heavily in occupation and apartheid in the West Bank that they were completely unprepared.

Like all authoritarians, instead of admitting his failure, he will use his failure to secure more power.

Saturday should have resulted in Netanyahu resigning. His government invested so heavily in occupation and apartheid in the West Bank that they were completely unprepared.

Like most authoritarians, he will instead use his failure to secure more power.

It is very clear to me there are a lot of bloodthirsty people in America. People who see carnage & get a contact high from it. People who use Israel & Palestine as a proxy to vent their violent fantasies. People who would rather Jews & Muslims fought than themselves.

Fuck them.

You should not feel like you have some sort of moral obligation to watch horrifying footage. That stuff will traumatize you. Focus on what you can do to help. Focus on taking care of yourself. Focus on learning and listening.

Suffering is not a requirement for helping.
January 15, 2025 at 2:16 PM
If you need an example of how Israel is used as a stand in for Jewish power in antisemitic tropes, look no further than Andrew Tate’s recent tweets.

For years now, his fans have demanded he start targeting Jews. This sort of conspiracizing is a step in that direction.
January 15, 2025 at 2:16 PM
I tried writing a piece, and it just became extremely clear that I had not given myself space to process what has happened.

Logic can be its own defense mechanism. So can the desire to speak out.

Speaking up matters. But if we can’t let ourselves feel the trauma, it festers.
January 15, 2025 at 2:16 PM
It is clear many people think all Gazans are complicit in the massacre. Very clear they see no difference between Palestinians and Hamas. Very clear they don’t see them as human.

It is this logic that is rooted in the genocidal reaction we are seeing. Treat them all the same.
