We've worked with Paul McLennan MSP to submit a motion to the Scottish Parliament to recognise Transgender Awareness Week, and Trans Remembrance Day, in the Scottish Parliament.

It says "That the Parliament recognises 13 to 19 November 2025 as Transgender Awareness Week (TAW), and 20 November as Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR); notes that TAW is intended to increase understanding of trans and non-binary people, highlight their achievements and diversity as a community, and bring attention to the issues that they can face; believes that trans and non-binary people can face many barriers in their daily lives in Scotland, including in employment, education, housing and using public services, as detailed in the Scottish Trans and Non-binary Experiences: Research Report, published by Scottish Trans in July 2024; recognises that the 2022 Census data recorded that nearly 20,000 trans and non-binary people live in Scotland, and that every MSP will have trans and non-binary constituents, and indeed many MSPs will have trans and non-binary friends, family members and colleagues; understands that TDoR is an international day of mourning, where trans people and allies across the world hold vigils to remember those they have lost to anti-trans violence, and encourages MSPs to promote what it sees as the importance of addressing discrimination, inequality and violence faced by trans and non-binary people, and to make decisions all year round that seek to improve their lives and make Scotland a safer and more inclusive place to live for everyone."

We asked trans and non-binary people in Scotland about their experiences with work and employment. We included questions about their experiences of workplace culture, being unemployed and accessing and recieving support at work.

There will be more we want to say to trans people directly once we have a chance to catch our breath.

Solidarity to all local Prides in their stance against Political Parties supporting a Puberty Blocker Ban
Unite Regional LGBT+ Committee statement on political parties participating in pride Unite has a long history of standing beside those who are most vulnerable to discrimination. Our union also has a strong history of holding politicians to account and challenging any failures to legislate to protect the most vulnerable in our society. In line with these principles we are proud to stand alongside the call for uninviting all political parties, who have supported and enacted the puberty blocker ban for trans people, from participating in Prides. Unite has proudly participated in Prides to show our support for LGBTQIA+ rights, and we actively campaign for those rights. Pride is a protest, and those who fail to support the protest have no right to be there. Pride is a call for action, and those who are in positions of power must use that power to act for everyone in the LGBTQIA+ communities. Unite’s policy is to support non-commercial, community-based Prides who focus on the rights and needs of everyone who is part of the LGBTQIA+ communities. Unite will be following our policy when deciding which local Prides to support and participate in.

📢 At EIS Glasgow Local Association ABM last night, two motions were passed in relation to the institute's use of social media. They instruct the EIS it to stop using X and Meta platforms.

🛑 Our local network had already stopped using X and the Glasgow LA office will now follow.
