i like flies too! #FlyWeek

sometimes I actually get rather obsessed with photographing them, looking only for flies

here's a cool Mydas fly, evolved to mimic a tarantula hawk, from our local San Diego deserts

Thanks Tom!, yes Titanoeca 👍
In honor of my friend @mhedin.bsky.social and his recent terrific @ologies.bsky.social podcast episode on araneology (spiders), here's a wee spider I found in Montana's Pryor Mountains last week. My *guess* is it's a rock weaver (family Titanoecidae) but maybe Marshal can correct me if I'm wrong. 🐙🌿

wow so cute! look at this ant!
one of my all time favorite joyous little animals

Calicina, a "short-legged harvester" (Opiliones), a type of arachnid

Calicina includes 25 described species, all from CA, and all with naturally small geographic distributions

silly, but I've always sensed a kindness in their tiny little eyes

portrait of an Amaurobius spider, southern Sierra Nevada

curious spider genus in California, a combination of a few very broadly distributed species (found in many states) .... and over a dozen microendemic species, most known only from a single CA location.

the imaged species is microendemic
