Born in Texas but got to Philly as fast as I could. Victorian studies, painting, gardening, & naps.

Rereading Wells’ The Time Machine, and this story about an attenuated race of vegetarians frolicking among once grand institutions, waiting to be hunted by carnivorous trolls, while a guy panics that everyone has gotten stupid and desperately plots to escape his timeline does not hold up at all.

When you begin a chapter in Dickens and you can tell he’s going to kill an orphan, is that the same pleasure for Victorians as when u are watching the latest Jurassic Park movie and you know the T-Rex will eat somebody? Like it’s the pleasure of the familiar motions of a beloved genre? lol

'The Landing in Summer.' Mary Dawson Elwell emerged on the British art scene as a painter of interiors, or more strictly, 'portrait interiors,' of her Yorkshire home in the 1930s. Her watchwords are stillness, silence, containment, privacy, meditation, illumination.

Out of curiosity I wanted to know how the massive LMS Instructure (company that runs Canvas) is using the massive amounts of data it collects on students.

Oh.

The cement king of Sioux City who drives a brand new F-350 and has two vacation houses in Florida isn't an elite but a grad student with $200,000 in debt and a nose ring is, that's how this works.
It would be so useful if everyone who writes about “elites” could make the tiny extra effort to be specific about who they’re actually talking about

About to be Jokerfied by this blandly tossed-off statement in a piece about how the lie machines will never stop lying. Why concede that AI is "useful" in writing term papers? What is the purpose of writing assignments in education? Is AI accomplishing that purpose? www.nytimes.com/2025/05/05/t...

I painted a silly homage to my recent diagnosis of a “redundant” or “tortuous” colon. My son tells me I’ve finally gone too far. I’m going to hang it in the powder room so he has to look at it every day. #art

We’re writing with a quick update. NCSA has decided to quit Twitter. Our account is still open for now, but we will permanently close it on 7 July, 2025.

You can help us by spreading the word to our C19 colleagues. We’ve already built quite a following over the past year!
