Unpopular opinion, but the trans sports debate has been an effective wedge issue for the right because for most of our “allies,” support was always about them feeling good rather than developing any empathy or knowledge.

It’s not our first turn with authoritarianism (Jim Crow; internment) but also this took about 8 years, with an assist from Biden in his refusal to impose consequences on an attempted coup because he didn’t want to face political backlash
The speed by which America collapsed into authoritarian rule is the most shocking thing. Faster than other contemporary cases. Faster than the alleged “dictator’s playbook” suggests. So fast we *shouldn’t* call it “competitive authoritarianism.” It may be worse than that.

For many of them, democracy ended when Obama was elected twice and Black Lives Matter rose to prominence.
