Things I wish I could say to a manager without getting in trouble, autism edition:

I can't read your mind. Please be explicit in what you want from me so I can give you what you want instead of you getting mad at me for not delivering the thing you didn't say you wanted.

I shared some advice with neurospicy peers that they said helped them. So here it is.

Even if you are tired or bored, the energy it takes to complete it will be less than the energy of carrying it unfinished and feeling stressed about it. You deserve the relief and pride in completing the task.

A recruiter working with DOGE is actively staffing a project to deploy these bots across the federal government, claiming they could easily do the work of 70,000 public employees. Because nothing says “effective government” like trusting your issues to AI.

An aid ship heading to Gaza has sent out a distress signal after crew members say it was hit in a drone attack and has caught fire. There are 30 aid workers on board the Freedom Flotilla ship, which was attempting to break Israel’s 2-month aid blockade.

Don't forget, your chats with AI tools are likely getting extracted and used to train their tools, and you using these chatbots more is beneficial to these companies.

Labeling human generated content seems like an effective way to fight model deterioration that comes from feeding AI models AI generated content.

Goal seems positive, but also a means to scrape human made data in the future.

Adobe releases ‘created without generative AI’ tag to label human-generated art
Just as it’s introducing the option to use GenAI models like OpenAI, Runway, and Google, Adobe is letting creators draw a new line in the sand between their work and AI.

I’m reading Careless People and one of the things that struck me (and that makes total depressing sense) was the description of leadership pointing out that terrorism is good for the company because when governments are worried about safety they don’t care about privacy.

every person involved in this needs to be in prison
“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

My old and thick Staffordshire terrier loves being carried and is insistent that I use her carrier to take her up and down stairs now. So at least a couple times a day, I literally strap this girl in while her tail wags enthusiastically to carry her down a flight of stairs like a piece of luggage.

In recent years user experience feels like a mask we wear so that we can pretend we care about our users instead of just wanting to maximize profit and increase shareholder value. Before I used to convince myself we cared about both, now it just feels like a mask.
