I sometimes hear people say we shouldn't be teaching students to be human calculator. In your opinion, which should a student be able to solve without a calculator at the end of 8th grade?

3 x 4
32 + 19
100 - 11
18 x 7
83 x 14
1268/4
50% of 18
8% of $40
14.50 - 3.75
3.95 x 15
-5 + 3
12 x -2

Why?

I've been thinking a lot about this quote from Ausubel: "The most important single factor influencing learning is what the learner already knows. Ascertain this and teach him accordingly." It connects to the idea that learning is "sticky," learning is easiest when we already know a bit about a topic

Google Classroom changed the formatting of their calendar and I am scheduling assignments for after Thanksgiving break and I keep clicking from 2024 to 2025 rather than November to December and it is driving me absolutely crazy
