I have received a response from the Ministry of Defence to the enquiries I sent two weeks ago.

I am not sure it add much to what is already in the public domain, but I am pleased to see the Ministry of Defense have been in direct contact with the military families living near the barracks.

This is absolutely gross.

If there's a genocide, and you make it here and your family is still there, the Labour position is you don't automatically get to bring them over? Horrifying

All it will mean is children drowning in the channel

Liberal Democrat MPs just defeated Nigel Farage’s Bill in Parliament to tear up people’s rights and withdraw from the ECHR.

Farage wants to do away with the Britain Churchill built and turn it into Trump's America. We won't let him.

I think this is my main issue with the proposal to move people into Cameron Barracks in my ward in Inverness - it will almost certainly be really expensive and unfit for purpose while doing absolutely nothing to actually process asylum seekers any quicker

That's why I have "there's too many black people in adverts" as one of the most hands-down racist klaxons there is, short of violence or Nazi iconography. There's no pretence of a policy issue there, no tapdance of "legitimate concerns". It's just pathetic melanin whinging.
Something I can't get over with the Sarah Pochin comments is that it's not just racist, it's also pathetic? Like oh wittle Sarah doesn't like the wittle adverts is it? Get a grip, you're a grown woman and member of parliament, stop being a snowflake and find a real problem to deal with

The two-child limit is cruel, self-defeating and traps children in a life of poverty.

It's time to end it once and for all.

"The idea of deporting people with settled status is disgusting, and anyone proposing it should be immediately drummed out of polite society. Breaking promises made in good faith to our friends and neighbours is racist, extremist and immoral."

I'm basically shouting at the sky here, but still.
It’s racist, it’s extremist and it’s immoral
The right is still calling for deportations, and the government is still being cowardly about it. Also: London’s first green belt; some notes on a shark; and some news, on my next book.

A mother with settled status whose child is disabled. The father is British by birth. They have received DLA for the child. A Tory government would deport her?

I'd really like any Conservative who has ever talked about the "party of the family" to explain why this is the right thing to do.
A policy this expansive would certainly mean mass stripping of permanent residence status from people with ILR (including pensioners and parents of British children) on a scale far beyond anything any democracy has ever done before. There is no public support for such an extreme policy.
Via @sundersays.bsky.social the Conservatives' draft legislation - absolutely clear that it applies to (and is intended to apply to) legal permanent residents claiming state pension (on the basis of their contributions) or child benefit for British kids.

The Conservatives are proposing to deport millions of people who came here legally and played by the rules.

These people are our friends, neighbours, and loved ones contributing to our communities, often doing work noone else wants to do.

An awful policy proposed by a party devoid of a soul
Here Lam explicitly sets out her proposal - which is official Conservative Party policy - to deport long-standing legal permanent residents who have *ever* claimed any benefit, including the state pension or child benefit (even if the child is British), or who earn less than £39K.
