I doubt we’ll see much on School meals in the upcoming budget, but here’s a little wish list, just in case there’s any spare change knocking about DfE

Increase the per meal funding!

Keeping funding at £2.61 is essential punishing Small schools, Infant schools & schools in areas of high deprivation

School meals provide the benefit of economies of scale to feed a population of kids more economically, consistently and better than when most families have to separately plan, buy, prepare and package breakfast, lunch and/or afternoon snacks for school kids to eat before, at or after school.

It's increasingly obvious that Labour's strategy - call it Starmerism, Blue Labour, whatever - has got it badly wrong. It has alienated the party's core vote while failing to win over those leaning to Reform. There was no shortage of people warning them they were getting it wrong either.
Three years ago, Labour was polling in the 50s.
