Math teacher, book reader, and cat mom.
I am currently reading Mathematical Tasks by Chris McGrane and Mark McCourt. I also follow several UK maths teachers and really enjoy the tasks they share. It makes me wonder about task design - is it part of the teacher training program or just related to who I follow?

Does anyone know if there is a collection of error analysis or spot the error problems for HS Geometry?

Thanks!

I need a better way to organize ideas, tasks, & activities for various lessons/chapters...

I've tried electronic and I always forget it even exists - out of sight, out of mind?

I've tried paper and that works ok, but maybe need to organize it better?

What do you do?

Geometry teachers - what are some of your favorite tech explorations?

Here are ones I have already:
- Geogeobra - parallel lines and transversals
- Geogebra - properties of parallelograms
- Geogebra - trig ratios

- Desmos - angles in polygons

@abeljennifer.bsky.social Thanks for the re-post (what are they called on here??)...

What's on your summer reading list? I also love seeing what you are reading!

I am vaguely remembering someone (years ago), compiling a geometry problem set book based on the Exeter materials plus maybe some other materials? Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Okay #mtbos friends - summer is approaching! What's on your #eduread Reading List?

Hey @ddmeyer.bsky.social - I was going to use some of the 3act tasks in my Geometry class and many of the "get the goods" links are dead due to the 101qs site being down. Do you have them available anywhere else? If not, no biggie, just thought I'd ask! :) Thanks!

Any good activities or lessons for volumes of revolution for a high school honors geometry class? I'm planning hands on and literally revolving them but looking for ideas #mtbos #iteachmath #mathsky

For any of my MTBoS friends that love reading thrillers - both Falling and Drowning by TJ Newman are now on KU!

Does anyone know if I can schedule an assignment on GC to open at a different time for one student?

My class isn't until the last period of the day, but I have a student that needs earlier access, but I don't want to open it for everyone.

Why is there not an "unpublish" button on Google Classroom? I just don't understand...

Does anyone have a right triangle review where students have to determine the method to use? (Pythagorean, SRT, or trig)

We've been on distance learning a LOT this month due to illness and weather. I'm running out of DL ideas.

I thought of having them use Desmos / polypad to create a quadrilateral themed artwork, but does something like this already exist maybe?

Does anyone have an example of a k-12 learning progression for a single strand (like functions, etc)? My professor has asked us to make 3 of them, but before I get too involved in making one, I was hoping for an example just to make sure I'm on the right track. TIA!

Hi friends!

I'm working on an assignment for a class I'm taking and I wanted to get your feedback on a question:

What questions should teachers strive to ensure that students can answer about functions?

I am curious what others would say. I have a list of ideas, but checking if I forgot anything

3 preps plus a broken finger (arm/hand in splint) plus 2 grad school classes might be more than I can handle...

Thankful for yesterday's snow day for giving me two 3 day weekends in a row to try to juggle it all!

Some days, every book on my TBR sounds fascinating and I add more and more. Somedays, nothing catches my eye, even though I have plenty of books on the list...

I'm definitely a mood reader and having a grumpy mood right now isn't helping. My arm itches under the splint and winter break is over :(

If anyone wants to join us, here is the book we are reading: Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching High School www.amazon.com/dp/194249648...

This term is going to busy with teaching full time, 2 grad classes, and a broken right pinky but I am so grateful to be chatting again #eduread

Thank you for doing this #eduread with me! I've missed our chats!!

Any last minute thoughts on the Intro or Ch 1?

One of the chapter reflections questions was about any challenges you see in using these strategies...

For me, I think time to develop and explore... overall, I don;t teach a ton of algebra, but I want to look for some tie-ins that I can help make better connections

#eduread The TQE (Task, Question, Evidence) process mentioned in this book reminded me a lot of the 5 Practices as well. I enjoyed watching the classroom snippetts to illustrate the process

#eduread In Ch 1, I found the discussion on inverses quite interesting as well. I had never thought about the function of y=2x+5 and its connection to solving an equation such as 13=2x+5 and how you could use that to really teach the idea of inverse functions

One concern I had while reading is how many teachers in my state are emergency / noncertified... how do we get this kind of PD into their hands to help them make connections in order to teach their students?
January 5, 2025 at 8:36 PM
#eduread

One thing I really like so far about this book is the DOING... The authors ask you to do the task before the discussion / connections
