Likely to post about libraries, HE, feminism, shoes, and cats. Not necessarily in that order. She/her.
I assumed this was about the US at first, but no, this is in the UK. We *cannot* go down this route.

Ended my day with a beer in the garden. Glorious weather!

This
A repeat thought, Bluesky, & a Librarian told you this so it must be true 🤣

Audiobooks definitely count as reading (as well as listening). If you've played through an audioook, its perfectly fine to describe that as "I have read [x]"

All other forms of assistive software count as reading too 💙📚

100% this, it is baffling to me.
I don't understand the physics of people who can swallow pills dry.

Very much enjoyed listening to Peter Barr from Sheffield about collection development & tackling the issue of the ‘print burden’ , will have to check out their strategy #uksgforum2024 - www.sheffield.ac.uk/library/libr...

I do like the concept of the 'meh' factor of AI generated content - sometimes sounds good on the surface, but really often a list of lists #UKSGForum2024

Really interesting point from Pete Barr at @sheffielduni.bsky.social library about mentally separating provision of content from collection of content. Collections can add value to an institution not only academically but also culturally, symbolically and for conservation purposes #UKSGForum2024

"Students don't just want an old fashioned PDF plonked in front of them." Ian Moroz from BibliU at #UKSGForum2024 BibliU is using AI to break PDFs down into segments, quizzes, etc. Revolutionized publisher willingness to engage with new business model. #OER
BibliU have seen massive increase in copy + pasting from e-textbooks in last 18 months as students ask ChatGPT to explain content for them. Relates to @jsendall.bsky.social's points about literacy skills in relation to GenAI. Should students be trusting what it comes back with? #UKSGForum2024

Yes & I think this is increasingly going to be a skill that everyone needs to have - beyond the university context, in schools / life more generally. There are a lot of potential risks that could stem from a naive engagement with AI (albeit a lot of those beyond the purview of today's discussions!)

@jsendall.bsky.social ending with a call to action - don't fear AI. If anyone has a profession to engage with the opportunities and challenges, it's the library, knowledge and info community.

Pleased to see that some of my main reasons for still being on the hellsite (@jortsthecat.bsky.social @askaubry.com @askamanager.bsky.social ) are all here now.

Though what that particular selection of accounts says about me, I'm not sure.

Cor, hello new followers, what a lot of you there suddenly are! How many of you do I already know and who are new folks? Be warned, I'm often a lurker on social media, with sudden sporadic bursts of activity...

The Kings Heath buzzards have been making an amazing racket all afternoon. Sitting out into the garden with a beer post work and watching them flying pretty low as well. Do I know any bird nerds who can explain their behaviour?

Ooh what an exciting email I've received today. For the low low cost of $3,000 USD a random magazine will feature me as their cover story "We are eager to spotlight your incredible journey and the innovative work you are doing". I will even get a digital "certificate of honour". Sign me up now.

And what better way to signal my return than a photo of this idiot? A 15 year old geriatric kitten. Dementia, renal failure, or just enjoying the perks of the elderly to be a bit of a nob?
