NIH funding is HUUUUGEEE here in NC.
I’ve said we should watch the things trump does that will hurt members of Congress that actually have to run for reelection. There will be lots of examples to come.
Really good point about the NIH funding

I'm trying this site again. Former rural and low income student and teacher -> educational psychologist studying inequity in K-12 & higher Ed, typically around race, ethnicity, class, gender, disability.

Cat / human mom, lover of food and books (mostly thriller, mystery, and "literary" fiction) 👋

Oh good
I wrote about Jan 6th on other social media sites instead of my blog (dumb!), but my 19th-century historians’s take is pretty simple: what you get when you invite white supremacists back into power after they tried to violently overthrow the govt is a century of apartheid & reactionary violence.

America is not pro-life and I've never known this more than through my experiences as a parent. If they wanted more babies, they would do the obvious like address maternal mortality, parental leave, child hunger, etc.

Wow wow wow. Amazing abstract that gets to the heart of the pain that millennials feel
New in AJS! @zjvanwinkle.bsky.social, Anette Fasang & I investigate a hotly debated question: are Millennials worse off than their parents’ generation, the Baby Boomers? We argue that this is a misleading question. Why? See ⬇️ or read www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

The thing I want people to know is how much time a chronic illness takes from us.

I don't just mean the time we spend in bed, either. It's a thousand tiny cuts that consume days and weeks.

One of the most striking charts from our paper imo is this one:

The vast majority of Economics PhDs at top-ranked programs have a parent with a *graduate* degree - particularly among the American students.

That is, we are drawing from an extremely narrow socioeconomic pool.
