Fascinating talk by Dr Harleen Johal on conflict in the ITU.

Great to see such a full room for this.

Was lovely to be able to programme an invited session that draws people in with some clinical contexts and then hits them with intense philosophy expertly explained!

The half-term walk to nursery once again confirming that it isn't cycle lanes that cause congestion

Absolutely this

The Grand Union Canal is part of my commute in the summer months, but I won't use it after dark.

Official cycleways should be safe, well lit, and accessible - in all weathers, 24/7. Canal towpaths are never that
ICYMI: Catch up with our Freedom After Dark report, reviewing how Transport for London are routing 'official Cycleways' down unlit canals & back alleys notorious for muggings to avoid the politically difficult work of building safe main road cycle lanes https://bit.ly/3CTeiii

Amazing coincidence - the one day I cycle down Oxford street without my passpixi I get a 6 inch close pass from a black cab...

Just got the email about #Discovery+ and the price hike for the cycling - have really enjoyed getting into watching cycle racing - but no more (and I'm sad about it) - £30/month v poor value for someone who doesn't really watch other sport.

I miss the #GCN app!

Did the parkrun and tonight the club run for the first time in months (slowly coming back from a running injury and also just busy - but have kept up my cycling fitness) and my Garmin is acting like I've just run back to back marathons!

Have just seen that #Fairlight are about to launch the Strael 4.0 - perfect timing as about to start the search for n+1

(Any other suggestions for 200km+ audax bikes welcome)

Beautiful Parkrun this morning in the sunshine - first in ages due to general busyness - but lovely to get out again

Looking forward to discussing Ethics at the End of Life this morning with the iBSc students at Imperial - but not looking forward to High Street Kensington on the bike at rush hour!

Support for end-of-life care and bereavement remains inadequate.

We urgently need a community centred, public health approach to the social processes of dying and grieving, backed by properly funded palliative care, writes @lucyselman.bsky.social

Facing death differently: revolutionising our approach to death and grief

How did I miss this study when it came out a few months ago? Google Scholar normally emails me about anything that even mentioned cycling. Anyway - WOW, look at the effect sizes for the benefits of active travel

17-year-long Scottish study of 82,000+ adults finds commuting by bike reduces your risk of:
• early death
• hospitalisation for any reason
• cardiovascular disease
• cancer mortality
• treatment for mental health problems.

Yeah, but those LTNs and bike lanes are *really* annoying.

Any "avid cyclist" who claims that the solution to road safety for cyclists is simply to be more skilled and assertive should be required to demonstrate that they are more skilled and assertive than Olympic Champion Remco Evenepoel who was, this week, doored.

Today's ward round theme from colleagues has very much been ask your local palliative care consultant about assisted dying

That thing where in a bout of rare efficiency you send a whole load of emails in the morning - and by the afternoon everyone has replied

So you end the day with a fuller and more complicated in box than when you started!

On my way to town for a thing with drinks - would usually cycle but Lizzie Line is down so can' get bike back. Doing my three monthly tube journey (massively delayed) that promptly reminds me why I cycle everywhere.

Now to buy some new lights for the Brompton so I don't have to do this again!
