Sadly scammers get no real punishment or consequences in this presidency because they have all been either pardoned or their charges dropped.
Just generally I wish there was more enforcement around scams and fraud. Maybe it’s a drop in the bucket, but enforcing the laws that protect our most vulnerable Americans from financial ruin seems like it’s always a good idea.
"Every six months, Meta earns $3.5 billion from just the portion of scam ads that 'present higher legal risk,' the [Meta] document says, such as those falsely claiming to represent a consumer brand...That figure almost certainly exceeds 'the cost of any regulatory settlement involving scam ads.'”

I'm always impressed by how seriously jurors take their charge. Every time you get a peek into the black box, you see things that reveal that they understand the gravity of their choices.

Honored to be part of this reflective piece led by @laurenshallion.bsky.social. Thinking through these issues was cathartic, then lit a fire, then instilled hope for how to keep moving psych wellness & behavioral health forward. May others feel that hope & drive to keep psych science rolling. 🙏🏼

I am so upset.

Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
To be asked to write about racism only to be racially aggressed in the editing process is a new level unlocked I have to say.

To add just another nail of anxiety into our lives, I was just reminded that the tomb of Cleopatra has not been found yet. I know I know. Small potatoes compared to *gestures vaguely at the air* but on the other hand…. This now requires my full attention.

Between this image of Trump defacing and destroying part of the White House for his ego and the AI slop video he posted dumping on people from a jet plane, the metaphors are spot on.

And they brag about these things.
Couldn’t come up with a better metaphorical picture of what this administration is doing to America if I tried. Sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 words.

This reminds me to let all the mainland people know that Puerto Rico has one of the highest electric bills in the US. Compared with abysmal minimum wage, it’s extremely unfair to the Americans living in the island.
More people should be talking about this.

Reupping for the morning crowd.

I have been thinking about the consequences of attacks on science and education by the US government.

For my research field and academic family, I know the history. I am talking more directly about the Nazis and science when I teach cognitive psychology these days.
Today I started my grad cognition class for our masters program (we’re on a quarter system).

After introductions, I start with a brief historical consideration of cognitive psychology. I note that the Gestalt school was a cognitive approach based in Germany.

We then talked about what happened. 1/

Let's be clear: no one should be taking medical advice from the man who told Americans to inject bleach.

To moms worried about the Tylenol they took while pregnant: you deserve better than being RFK Jr's scapegoat.

And to the autism community: you are loved exactly as you are.

Meta-analysis of twin studies reveals autism is largely genetic. This was published 10 years ago, and yet here we are.
