one of my favorite poems that I've written 💘✨
I am a modern mosaic Romantic passionate believer of heartbreak and bloodletting and though my language of love is illuminated by LEDs backlighting calculated pressure sensitivities and not candles that drip wax on parchment nor oil lamps that burn in tandem with incense whose smoke rises with the hums of the devout I do not think my binary-broadcasted siren calls are less visceral or heartfelt than any older ink I am a modern mosaic Romantic because the surest sign of society is a healed femur and the surest sign of life is flowing saltwater and I'm aware that I've broken my own heart carelessly and that others will try to do the same but I am a human and a child of the ocean and I will cry myself back to shore on waves that crash in-tempo with the music of older heartbeats I believe in love like I believe in death and taxes and I believe in all of those as much as I believe in myself and my therapists' specialized trainings and as much as I hold faith in the heat death of the universe, and in tarot, and in peer-reviewed double-blind studies and in the good of the hearts of my fellow mortals. flaked, dried ink on decayed papyrus can tell you that the sum of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and I am not the first brazen heart to stand on a shoreline and stare at the horizon and only see everything that has faded like the things we lost were carried on those dying sunrays and forget that no matter if I stay there standing still or not the sun will rise from the opposite side and the only way I'll never see the sunrise again is if I stay in my own cycles of blackest night I want death to find me alive, I want to feel my heartbeat transfer from this body to whatever form it takes next I want to be alive the whole time I say these things as I stare at a purple-pink sky even if that sky can only be seen through my mind's eye and while my DSM alphabet soup means that I'm prone to fixating on the things that bother me and missing the forest for the trees like all aerobic apex predators, I have the ability to breathe and take stock of what's around me and if I realize that I am staring at darkening shorelines I will let my gaze linger if I need to but I will also make sure to turn my heel and walk towards the opposite horizon to greet the dawn and it's okay if I stop to grab a hot chocolate and check DMs on the way.
