Extra grateful to receive an NIAAA R21 award today. My former labmate/grad school BFF (Amy Stamates) and I will use EMA to examine impulsivity/craving and alcohol when co-used with cannabis and/or nicotine among young adults.

As many are waiting on NIAAA awards, I thought I'd share some history:

I did a RePORTER search for any grants with Award Notices issued by NIAAA from 7/1/2025 onward, just to see if they were shut down completely. No, there are 39 awards including two R00 conversions …

OPINION: Federal cuts put addiction treatment and recovery at risk
I vividly remember growing up and my grandmother warning me to be careful with alcohol — because addiction “runs in our family.” She wasn’t wrong. For generations, both sides of

New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024.

That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved.

Show me a better investment than that.

We need to organize--let’s help each other.

NIH is cancelling grants, but it's not clear exactly what they're cancelling and why. Without this information, we can't respond.

I've started a Google Sheet to track grant cancellations.

Please add any canceled grants you know of and spread the word!

In case it's relevant for any #addictionsci friends - NIAAA's AA-2 study section met on 2/25 as planned and IPTA is now showing that it was rescheduled for 4/23/25 (original date of 2/20/25). I haven't been notified by any of this via email; just diligent eRA commons checking!

Wondering if your study section cancelled? I update this sheet daily. As of today, 56/124 study sections that should have met since Jan 2, 2025 have "not met as scheduled." docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

I'm trying to save them.

You can find the deleted docs at cdcguidelines.com - I'll be adding more over the weekend.
