I did my best to push back on my book being "trans memoir" as it's about many things, but most of all how my life was formed by labour. I got my first job @ 13. I was a journeyman Glazier @ 21. I wasn't a writer (or a trans) until my 30s. Celebrate Labour Day by reading about labour

"The era of mass digitization in the 1990s-2000s has largely ended in public and private enclosures, gated behind library credentials or private firewalls. In an era when everything is presumptively digital, the analog has become a refuge for the poor and a fetish for the privileged." Is this right?

Our obvious starting point—that @manahil.bsky.social is a very fine poet—somehow failed to prepare me for how good Heliotropia is. Warm-hearted. Embracing. Meticulously crafted. Whimsical. Fantastical. Botanical. Astronomical. Sometimes verging on chant or prayer. Plus Star Trek.

Opinion: Arcade Fire announced the release of their latest album, Pink Elephant, in the most casual of ways. Every post on social media, every lyric of their newest single, is a downplay of the serious allegations against Butler. By @yaraelsoueidi.bsky.social

Opinion: Arcade Fire’s Rotten Legacy – The Rover
Arcade Fire wants you to think they can return to the spotlight without any consequences. They have yet to prove that they've made amends.

This is absolutely a systematic reason working class writers are underrepresented in the field, but we DO exist. We just had to bust our asses and catch a few extremely lucky breaks to wriggle in through the cracks.
The reason there's no working class representation in publishing is because publishing and writing currently pay so badly only people who are already financially stable can afford to do it.
The problem is always, always money.
My problem with things like these is that working-class writing ends up being literary stories about how dreary it is being working class. They're not interested in examining the working class through the lens of fantasy, for example.

Alternatively, please request that your local city or university library carry it—I’d be forever grateful! I can put in a request for Montreal libraries if you have a book you’d like to be made available to the library-going masses but don’t live here.
Good Want is not carried at the Concordia or McGill library. I’d love for it to be available to read for free, in as many places as possible, especially at my alma mater.

Would any current students/staff help by making a request for it? I can send all the info + will find a way to pay it forward ❤️
