Wyatt- 4 y/o, unaltered male, 44lbs 4-year-old Wyatt was brought to BARCS through our partnering Animal Control. He was discovered by a Good Samaritan in a local dog park with several fresh, bleeding wounds and appeared to lethargic and in shock, unable to walk. Upon examination at our shelter, our vets noted that Wyatt had multiple wounds on the right side of his face, his right upper forelimb, right inguinal area, and the base of his tail. He also had swelling and lameness of the right thigh. He was transferred to a partnering emergency hospital to have the wounds clipped and cleaned while he was sedated. Drains were also placed in two of the wounds and x-rays taken revealed bullet fragments in the area of the right hip with a comminuted fracture of the proximal femur, neck of the femur, and pelvis. Bloodwork also showed that Wyatt was anemic and his proteins were a little low. For now, Wyatt is being treated with oral antibiotics and pain management. His staples are due to be removed in 7 to 10 days, and given his injuries, an amputation of the right hind limb is recommended. A full medical summary and x-rays can be provided upon request. Because some of Wyatt's wounds appear to be bite wounds of unknown origin, he is on a mandatory, precautionary 4-month-qaurantine until 7/24/25, during which time he must remain separate from other animals. Despite the circumstances, Wyatt has been friendly and cooperative so far in our care. He has been a bit frantic and overwhelmed, understandably, but has been generally easy to handle still. Wyatt is currently on stray hold and will be available for rescue pick-up on 3/29. Please let us know if your organization can help!
