“public perception of the donkey kong series” my brother in christ you are allowed to simply enjoy a thing
Bananza getting nominated for Game of the Year is cool and well-deserved. Not only is it wonderful for the devs, but it will do wonders for the public perception of the Donkey Kong series!

But it's still not enough for me to give a single damn about the Game Awards.

I’m seeing a lot of leftist posts on the other site overrun with hypercritical baseless claims about other liberals being DINOs or somesuch, usually with very strange like-dislike ratios.

Maybe I’m thinking conspiratorially, but it seems that those posts+likes aren’t real. I like Ezra Klein!

finding an old (12+y) thread on the internet is such a peculiarly joyful experience. People wrote in such a relatively carefree and silly prose compared to the algorithmic-rage-bait irony-poisoned ad-copy we all emit today. I miss the old web.

Arguing anything with a MAGA person or a fringe leftist makes it immediately obvious what the problem is. They can make whatever claims they want, and when you criticize those claims, they take a step back into a massive sea of alternative evidence and communities that confirm that evidence.
There is now a mountain of "evidence" anyone can draw for any positions. We now have to argue about the quality of the evidence and the ways it is interpreted but this is much harder.
I increasingly feel certain that the thing that has driven politics insane is the growing ability of people to find ways to validate their beliefs, no matter how incorrect and irrational. It started in right-wing media but has become central to all political discussion.

the amount of people in the world who just open-throat chug abject lies and baseless conspiracies is just so fucking depressing lmao

The amount of willful unpunished stupidity that’s not just allowed, but incentivized by social media is imo the central issue of our modern sociopolitical culture. The dopamine loop involved in cyclically validating mutual lies is Very Bad.

The government should regulate social media algorithms.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

fuck literally anyone who agrees with this anti-american numbskull
Stephen Miller says they are “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus, which is only allowed when the US has been invaded or during an insurrection, which would not allow people to challenge their incarceration in court if they are arrested and detained.
