MFF has deleted their half hearted statement from yesterday. I hope this means they're listening to us when we say they need to take a clear stance.

I know I would be easier to follow and support if I was always jovial and agreeable, but I'd find it mighty hard to sleep at night if I didn't say something.

It doesn't work like that. A lot of the hurdles the disabled community has conquered have indeed been battles against people who sincerely don't consider us a big enough or valid enough group to matter. We didn't get the ADA by smiling and nodding as people told us this world wasn't meant for us.

The reason I speak up so often about a small but vocal subset of the community antagonizing me is because I don't subscribe to "respectability politics", the idea that if I was only meek and agreeable enough, the people who don't care about my rights or well-being would suddenly start to do so.

This notion that my advocacy consists only of angry yelling and callouts is an absolute nonsense lie being peddled by people who really wish they could keep shitting all over me without me standing up for myself.
