Delightful read on surfing in Liberia!
We the Surfers documents Liberia’s nascent surf scene
Once ravaged by civil war, Liberia’s surfing crew is growing. Arthur Bourbon’s film We the Surfers celebrates the Robertsport Surf Club and its community.

It's a crucial time to donate to food banks if you can. And please donate $ instead of emptying your cupboards.

Also, if you were wondering what to do next after No Kings on Saturday, round up some of your friends who were there, or friends you made there, and get them to donate too.
With Trump and his cronies using the shutdown as cover to shut off the food stamp program, food banks will soon be flooded with demand from the 42 million Americans--including 16 million kids--who rely on the program. Which means the rest of us will need to step up and give whatever we can.

You gotta just block these accounts without interacting. They're doing this the night before No Kings so they can selectively grab quote posts and replies about how nasty people are being. It's extremely transparent. Just block and move on.
Yes, it does look like the government accounts joining Bluesky are real, including Homeland Security and the White House. They're tweeting about it on X.

Keep. Fucking. QUIET about attending a protest. DO NOT sign up for it. Leave your phone OFF, buy things with CASH if you need to, use PUBLIC TRANSIT. BE SMART ABOUT THIS. The last thing you want is the government hunting you down because you got caught.
Since the No Kings stuff is coming up again, reminder that you 100% should not *sign up* for a protest. You can just show up.

Every single news outlet talking about this refers to the freed Palestinians as prisoners. And if you think that it's semantics and it doesn't matter, people are using it to fuel their racist and Islamophobic rhetoric and these outlets are copying each other and are complicit in it.

I don’t just want you to pay attention to Chicago because I want you to understand our plight. I want you to see how hard people are fighting and know wtf you’re made of. We’re not just fighting for this place. This is for all of us.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.
"Jones, 27, is among the residents left at 7500 S. South Shore Drive who are trying to piece together what remains after an early morning, high-powered federal immigration raid led to the arrests of dozens of their neighbors at their South Shore apartment building."
Massive immigration raid on Chicago apartment building leaves residents reeling: 'I feel defeated'
The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents with Border Patrol, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested 37 people in the raid.

I hear the President has decreed that it is possibly a crime to refer to Americans as "fascists," but "fascism" is a word that has a relatively clear meaning that's worth understanding. Here's how an official publication of the US Army defined "fascism" in 1945.
The central point is that when fascism came to America it wouldn't call itself that, nor would it be wearing a swastika. It would call itself "patriotic" and "100% American."

Journalist Mario Guevara has been detained for 100+ days, ironically arrested as he reported on a "No Kings" protest.

The Trump-Vance admin just issued an order of final removal, to send him to El Salvador—where he fled from 21 years ago.

Q: "is it still 'winning' if only *some* good things happen in the near term instead of total planetary eco socialist revolution?"

Well, there it is. Sinclair is digging in for a fight, so please help push back -- find stations in your area, watch their local news to see what ads they run, then write those advertisers to tell them you're boycotting as long as they're on a Sinclair station.

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read.

They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.

Luckily, Sinclair has a helpful database of all their stations, so you can see if they're operating in your area and respond accordingly.
