I wish when certain people were given a platform not granted to many in a woman-focused space, they remembered it's not a personal blog anymore

And if someone walks up and asks for a seat at the table, you just let them sit instead of smugly insulting them & gossiping with the cool kids club after

It's like these ghouls looked at Kent State as
mission accomplished instead of humanitarian failure
Kristi Noem says the administration is "going from city to city around this country and pressuring these politicians to get on board with keeping their people safe. What is going to be the story here in Washington can happen in Chicago, Boston, San Francisco ... "

📕 ✅ One of my fav sports ARCs I received this year -
@scottmillerbbl.bsky.social “Skipper: Why Baseball Managers Matter (and Always Will)” - is now available

Counsell is in this one, as are all the big names in the modern game. Really solid insight into how different the job is today.

I’ll never know if the source material is better than the film because I’ll never bother with the source material.

Yesterday would have been my dad’s 80th birthday. (He made it to 55) I went to pick up the phone to call mom because we usually wished him a HBD

Didn’t remember I couldnt do that anymore because mom is now gone too

Being without parents, grandparents, or siblings is so strange sometimes

Have to say, Harlequin's website is such a mess it's impressive. Still can't log in to my account. Can't see any books when I'm on mobile. When I sent a customer service note the final suggestion to an iOS person was to try using Microsoft Edge.

Do they not want people to buy books?

My office at ACS (aka, The Leaning Tower of Dallas) was the SW corner, down one floor from the top.

There was a conf table in that office that I slept *on* for 2.5 hrs before starting work again. Most of my memories of then were having a big title & very little sleep.

'It didn't fall': How 'The Leaning Tower of Dallas' happened - and captured North Texas hearts
Rising from the haze of the demolition stood a single leaning tower, the core shaft of the building. It was still standing.

Wondering what kind of man would put up a Romance on NetGalley called “Make Love Great Again”? This guy.

…who would (on another writer’s book on Goodreads) come to comment bomb me on my rating of a wildly, laughably bad book.

No one talks about Crane Kenney’s influence. He’s a Trib years guy who it seems hasn’t changed his fiscal behaviors.

The Cubs were just blood donors keeping the LA Times & the Trib alive back then.

If they are *really* broke now, Crane is bad at his job and/or robbing Peter to pay Paul again.

Another example of why you cannot trust Amazon to not abandon any projects at any time if they don’t turn a max profit. This is what happens with a move fast and break things attitude.

Start crap with wild abandon. Make people who grew to rely on it repent in leisure.

This bill in OK is exactly what Project 2025 threatened: to make all pornography illegal, and criminalize the people who make it, using a WILDLY broad definition of pornography, which would include any book with sex in it.

We're talking jail time for romance authors.

⛔️Smut is Not a Harmless Word⛔️

It isn’t cute or funny.

No one is reclaiming smut from the language of book banners. It’s weaponized now more than ever because this administration is coming for anything they see as “p*rn.”

That may start with romance but it will keep on rolling to every genre.

Print Run was on 🔥 this week.

And yes, sometimes you do have to run on spite.

Write the challenging, complicated, uncomfortable things.

HONEST things.

And be ready to read those honest works without shaking your finger & asking for gentle & well behaved.

Change only comes from discomfort.

Open letter to podcasters with research heavy podcasts: ask a librarian. You like google scholar? Wait until you hook up with a research librarian. The primary sources you’ll get. The amazing literature searches. #skybrarians
i’m very open to ChatGPT having some utility. but a few times for If Books Could Kill i’ve asked ChatGPT to aggregate existing sources of criticism for a book. what it produces are without fail almost entirely hallucinations. and not just one, i mean lists of 5-6 articles that do not exist.
i can see how you would come to this conclusion if your job didn't require you to ever be correct

Forcing artists to infinitely promote their work means they’re marketers first, not artists.

“You’ve got to offer your content to the hellish, overstuffed, harassment-laden,uber-competitive attention economy because otherwise no one will know who you are” www.vox.com/culture/2024...
Everybody has to self-promote now. Nobody wants to.
So you want to be an artist. Do you have to start a TikTok?

The McCaskeys will never part with the Bears. It’s a 3+ billion dollar cash cow & they collectively control 80%

But this sends a message the fans are tired of being humiliated by this level of incompetence - so for their own selfish pride, maybe change comes
