This is horrible. A man falling into psychosis gets pushed into it and encouraged by an apparently vindicating chatbot. There's going to be a lot of this, and it's very sad.
WSJ: ChatGPT fueled a 56-year-old tech industry veteran’s paranoia, encouraging his suspicions that his mother was plotting against him.... On Aug. 5, Greenwich police discovered that Soelberg killed his mother and himself in the $2.7 million Dutch colonial-style home where they lived together.

It’s time to wake up - we are literally on the verge of losing our democracy if Donald Trump cheats his way to those seats in Texas.
Pritzker: Neither Texas nor the FBI at the federal level has the authority to arrest these Texas Democrats

Very low numbers here IMHO, shocking lack of confidence, who's not scoring a penalty in a big net against any keeper. Has Britain lost its ability to kick!?
33% of British men reckon they would be likely to score a penalty against England women's goalie Hannah Hampton - and 26% say the same of men's keeper Jordan Pickford

Only 4-5% of women say the same

Be great if Burnham and Khan defected to the new decent party. They can't agree with the main party, the below is insubordination or hypocrisy
Today, our capital proudly marks seven years of London Trans+ Pride.

As trans rights come under increasing pressure across the UK, this year’s march is a vital reminder: London is a city that stands for equality, dignity and pride - for everyone. 🏳️‍⚧️

So much noise on social media about Gaza, as someone else said though, the silence is deafening. Glad to see friends and followers are all decent sorts, unlike the power brokers of society.

I cannot believe the apathy of the world to Gaza. From the murderous bombing campaign to mass starvation now, how has everyone sat by and allowed this? Not even watching a genocide any more, ignoring it.

NOTHING galvanizes the Democratic establishment into action like getting to take out the knees of a truly leftist figure who has a lot of potential. Fascism doesn’t get them to do a damn thing but stopping any and all leftist hope it’s their Popeye Spinach baby.

As a mediocre engineer, I think the frequency of their grid got too low, everything tripped and couldn't recover. I don't want to blame renewables, but this didn't happen on a fossil grid.
As a programmer, my intuition about the root cause of the Spain-Portugal blackout is an unchecked integer overflow in some control software.

Please allow food in to Gaza. Please Israel, think about how history will judge you. End the genocide.
Almost every single time I post something, a Palestinian in Gaza asks me for help. And what's killing me is there's just not enough food in Gaza to go around. They're begging in a horrific game of Russian roulette and I know there's a lot going on but if you're not adding on a plea to get food

Reading about the Supersport motorcycle crash, so tragic, a horrible sequence of events. Would a limp mode/ engine kill switch work for the sport? Over wireless/telemetry etc, if a driver goes off bike into the track?

That was incredible. Rollercoaster. Phew. Well done Rory.

UK energy industry made £483bn profit since 2020.

OFGEM's marginal pricing rules guarantee profits to the most inefficient/costly producer.

1 in 5 of all deaths are people in fuel poverty – including 110,000 pensioners.

No curbs on profiteering. Real wages cut. WFP cut. Cost of living soaring.
How the energy industry is profiting from our pain as bills are set to go up
Ofgem’s is set to announce the energy price cap next week, with bills forecast to increase again for households.

Dispersed planning is a major cause of the power cuts in Ireland and still the government is planning to proceed with support for single dwellings and sites in the countryside. Silly!
climate change ramping up storms interacting with chronic neglect of infrastructure nationwide, institutional refusal to prep for climate change, and decades of dispersed planning has left us so vulnerable in Ireland. I dearly hope this storm is a wake up call to our governments and county councils

This situation won’t end with a ceasefire, it will not end with hostage & prisoner releases. It has not before, & it will not now. The global community must make it clear that this cycle of violence in #Gaza (& the #WestBank) must stop. Only with accountability to international law will this happen.
I am begging everyone to read this statement. This isn’t simply to say Israel committed war crimes - investigations are ongoing. This isn’t about asking for compliance with the ICJ. This is to state that Israel *attacked the very foundations of civilian protection*. www.ohchr.org/en/press-rel...

So Ireland is continuing to support one-off risk housing. I thought all sane planners had derided this as crap for towns and villages and the countryside, locking in car dependency, making services unfeasible etc, encouraging more silly McMansions here too. Great!
Their housing policy is also cakeist, rural Ireland will be saved by doubling down on the main thing that’s hollowed out its’ towns and villages. The serviced sites ambition is very low.

Facts here in this thread. No Labour MP should be posting on Twitter after recent events. Same for most UK politicians, but of course the Tories will, as it's mainly anti Labour at the minute. And of course, all Gov Comms need to come off it too.
If democracies are going to survive, they need to go to war with social media and the tech oligarchs who oversee it. We cannot have a society governed by mass hallucination.

Seeing people storm the Capitol on January 6 was some of the most harrowing shit I've experienced and it's only gotten worse from there. Not only did we give the guy a free pass for doing it, but we let him back into the WH with absolutely no pushback from anyone who could've stopped all of this.
