New Mexico is overriding the federal government on the topic of COVID19 vaccines to ensure their residents can access them.

States hold a tremendous amount of public health power. They should use it.

210 years ago today, the Battle of Waterloo took place over this ground. The Butte du Lion was completed in 1826. Climb the 226 steps to the top for a view of the battlefield.

The Cloth Hall, Ypres. Laid waste in #WW1 compared to how it looks today. Since medieval times the center of Belgium's cloth trade, the building now houses the In Flanders Fields Museum. #history

"The United States has launched a trade war with Canada, their ally and closest friend. At the same time, they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin, a lying murderous dictator. Make that make sense."

Tragically ironic that the party of Lincoln which saved America 160 years ago has now managed to destroy it.

Initial amusement on seeing this headstone matured into curiosity about a man who gave his life. Private Alfred Deadman, 2nd Bn., Royal Sussex Regiment died on a Somme battlefield at 42 years of age, older than the typical serviceman. He was the son of John Deadman of Northfleet, Kent. #ww1 #somme

Fricourt German War Cemetery, France. Of the 11 million Germans mobilized in 1914, 100,000 were Jewish. They too fought and died for their country but received much of the so-called "stabbed in the back" blame by war's end. By 1935 all Jewish officers were purged from the ranks. #WW1 #Somme #history

The Ardennes, Belgium.
A region that has witnessed centuries of passing conquerors, from the Gauls, the Romans, and the Celts, to the armies of Napoleon, Germany, Britain and America, rests in a peaceful intermission. #ww2 #history

The Last Tree, Battle of Delville Wood.
This hornbeam is the only surviving original tree, and the sole living witness to the struggle between South African and Scottish regiments with German army units that clashed here in the Somme valley, Jul-Sep 1916. #WW1 #Somme #history

WW1 shells near Mouquet Farm, France.
Driving along a farm road in the "red zone", we came upon these. Numerous unexploded shells are recovered yearly from WW1 battlefields during the "iron harvest". At the current rate, this is predicted to continue for the next several hundred years.
