PM Carney can fuck right off, if he thinks there's going to be another bitumen pipeline in BC.
Premier Smith and I have agreed to a framework built on shared ambitions — to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, unlock the full potential of Alberta’s energy resources, and build a stronger, more sustainable, more competitive economy.

approved despite over 600 speakers signing up to speak to the budget, with all but a tiny number strongly opposed, and following a public engagement survey that found the majority of respondents supported a property tax increase to avoid cuts.
Vancouver's 2026 draft budget has PASSED.

Approved on a 7-4 vote on party lines, with ABC in favour and councillors Fry/Bligh/Orr/Maloney opposed.

Property tax freeze, $50 million more for VPD, and cuts to Arts, Culture, Planning and Sustainability departments, among others.

Full story to come.

It's an international embarrassment that Canada refused to a sign onto adding a fossil fuel phaseout to #COP30 agreement. We should be leading, not sitting on our hands and letting Saudi Arabia negotiate for us.
Nearly 30 countries refuse to sign a final #COP30 agreement that doesn't include "fossil fuel phase-out," as negotiations head into overtime.

#Carney's policies have created a situation where many, many people will fall through the cracks and struggle to maintain their status in Canada. It is administrative cruelty to workers who have lives here to be put into limbo.

Ken Sim got told families are leaving faster than ever and was like “We’ll send changing table money to the police.”
Listening to Vancouver Council budget discussion in the background this morning. In response to a question from @seanorr.bsky.social about where they'll be retracting from the city just said they're planning to REMOVE baby changing tables and menstrual product dispensers to save costs. Shameful.

very impressed by COPE Councillor Orr for reporting summaries of every speaker for this budget, and actually staying until the end unlike most ABC councillors

my crude count is there were less than 10 in favour, roughly 260 opposed, with around 330 more speakers to go.
269: in favour. Tune out noise if fear mongers who say sky is falling. This is not drastic cuts to budget. Wants full budget transparency. Heard about services but don’t know what a necessary sevice is. Scope creep.

NEW: Over 630 people have signed up to speak to Council on Ken Sim's last budget.

ABC councillors now have a choice to make.

Vote for austerity and brutal cuts that nobody asked for - or do the right thing and preserve funding for climate, housing, and arts.

Worth noting that because Sim brought forward his proposal for a property tax freeze requiring millions in cuts with just weeks left in the budget process, this is not up for public debate and is not outlined in the documents available to councillors when they vote on this

Wikipedia is one of the best things to be produced in the internet age. A lot comrades put so much effort into maintaining it and keeping it up to date. Strongly recommend spending time on Wikipedia and volunteering some time to edit, if you can!
So for-profit AI companies have trained on the world's largest collaborative volunteer project and a precious free resource, to make money for their for-profit enterprises. They have crushed traffic to the volunteer project, starving it of donors and volunteers

Why does BC have an $11B deficit? Tax cuts.

Tax cuts, largely for the rich, have decreased government revenue by about $9B/year plus $1.5B lost from scraping the carbon tax.

The most amazing part of this is that the far right didn't target her because she celebrated Kirk's death or even threw his own words back at them.

She merely expressed a well-founded worry that his murder might inspire the far right to greater violence and they apparently took that as a challenge.
