I am absolutely fascinated by what's going on in Sunset right now. The supe representing that district got recalled and Lurie replaced him with a former pet shop store owner no one had ever heard of (???) because she asked him to (??????). www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/o...
Mayor Lurie’s pick for Sunset supervisor ran pet shop that ‘smelled like death,’ new owner says
The woman described Beya Alcaraz as someone who “cannot run a business,” and said the mayor’s office never spoke to her about the new supervisor’s track record as a business owner.

Senate Democrats think this is the appropriate response because they begin every conflict with the assumption they will lose, and then ask “How can we end this as quickly as possible while creating the appearance of having tried to win so the base isn’t mad?”
I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

I would not think that this is a good policy mix from an economic and political perspective:
- Increasing goods/food costs via tariffs;
- Denying SNAP benefits;
- Denying pay to government workers;
- Cutting healthcare assistance.
I wonder if this would also be called a ‘vibecession’….

Matt says that he wants Platner because he honestly wants to run the natural experiment and end the forever "moderate, or not?" debate.
Basically, he wants Platner to get the nomination and lose to Collins, so he wins.

It's so funny to me that the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024 was a former prosecutor who made that a part of her pitch, and the latest postmortem from The (centrist) Groups says "voters reject Democratic policies like prison abolitionism."

It wasn't until I started to experience life outside a car again that I began to see how shitty and unqualified I was to drive.

My uninformed take is 75k is potatoes for what is likely really good for driver retention.
Critics say the money could have been used for routes, but 75k against the 300m budget shortfall isn't going to matter in the way that retaining bus drivers long term will.
