I feel a smidge of AOM FOMO, but I’m going to use this would-be conference time to finish up my teaching prep early. Hope all in Denmark have safe travels!

Air travel recently has been nightmarish. Every flight is delayed for some odd reason, and I’m running out of new music to keep me sane.

I packed my entire bag for SIOP before checking the weather and becoming painfully aware that it is still winter/early spring in places that are not Texas.

I took the entirety of spring break off this year (my mom is turning 60 so my entire immediate family, plus my spouse who is still long distance, went to Sedona). Did I miss stuff? Yes. Am I behind and owe things to people? Yes. Did the sky fall? No. Do I feel like a brand new person? 100%

I left my laptop at home to travel for spring break, and the separation anxiety is real but the desert dissociation is necessary 🧘🏻‍♂️

This is a huge deal! A federal judge, representing the American Association of University Professors, has blocked Trump's executive orders that seek to end federal support for DEI programming.

Judge blocks Trump administration from terminating DEI-related grants
The judge found the administration's mandate that grant recipients not engage in "equity-related" programs was too broad.

Does anyone else feel in stasis between knowing that there is a ton of really important work that needs to be done, while at the same time being fundamentally exhausted by all of that work? Asking for a friend (who may be me as I order another double Americano)

During my long runs this year, I’ve started listening to audiobooks. My first book of the year was “Maternal Optimism” by @jladge.bsky.social and Danna Greenberg (a book I’ve been so ready to read for a long time; and very much enjoyed)!

I want to compile a comprehensive list of research funding opportunities for our PhD students in HRM/Labor Relations as part of a doc seminar I'm teaching. I'd love to tap the community here to make sure I cover all my bases. Please share any that you know of. I'm happy to post the final list.

Me ripping the calendar to see that the semester starts in 12 days is, quite literally, the most nightmarish way to start 2025

Finalized the syllabus today for my first doctoral seminar (OB!). I’ve been so pumped for this class the past few months - we’re going to read so many articles 🤩

I’m at the point of my self-imposed off time where I’m having stress dreams about my inbox and manuscripts. Merry merry!!!

Ah, the time honored tradition of turning on my out of office responder while also still reading every single email 😌

Happy SIOP decision day! Good luck to all - I wish I could see all my coauthored submissions in my own portal, but that just means more (hopefully good news) emails from academic friends on the horizon!

Final grades are submitted, research is researching, and my spouse is moving to Dallas with me in 6 months after 5 years of long distance. Things are good. Thats all!

One of my 10%s today was reading some really cool articles about sensemaking at work and then signaling as a sensemaking mechanism. Yay theory!!

Does working on 10% of 10 things equate to a 100% productivity work day? Asking for me (and my inability to focus on one thing for more than an hour all day today)

Not sure why I thought collecting multi wave data in December was a good idea. I almost responded to a participant email with the rubric for the papers I’m grading 🤪

One of the first papers that really inspired me was Belle Ragins’ Disclosure Disconnects paper. I remember how much this paper made me think, and how it teed up some of my very first “first authored” projects

Ok I may be procrastinating a little.

This migration from other platforms to Bluesky is pretty cool because not only can I keep connecting with cool researcher and sharing awesome work, but I also can get a timeline refresh and look at cool pictures of space and stars

My semester is over in it’s in-person capacity so it’s time to reflect and retool and move forward. What’s great about this year is that a lot of my “wins” were student “wins”. An undergrad presenting a research poster, one of my doc students getting a journal revision.

Check out my recently published commentary where my collaborators and I discuss how those tapped to do DEI work is disproportionately placed on individuals with minoritized identities. We also briefly discuss how to improve this.
