Friend tried to donate to my Throne, flagged by fraud detection at Bank of America — bank identified the transaction as specially for “giantess voretuber Ana Valens”

I suspect I faced those Patreon / Ko-fi dings b/c financial institutions have me, specifically, on record as a high risk recipient!

when these companies try to claim this is about what’s legal or not, they’re lying. none of the games that were removed from steam or itch broke the law. financial companies are making subjective decisions based on what might inconvenience them

It's legal to have in a book, it's legal to have in a game. They are making decisions based on their brand, based on public pressure from anti-porn groups, and that can be reversed."

Our payment network follows standards based on the rule of law. Put simply, we allow all lawful purchases on our network. At the same time, we require merchants to have appropriate controls to ensure Mastercard cards cannot be used for unlawful purchases, including illegal adult content.

"The Merchant must not market the content of its website or permit content search terms to give the impression that the content contains child exploitation materials or the depiction of nonconsensual activities." READ: Mastercard has mandates on what kinds of content should be indexed in platform search engines and what keywords should even function on search engines. How Mastercard defines "child exploitation materials" or "nonconsensual activities" are wildly unclear. In the past, this mandate has been used against Patreon to mandate the removal of hypnosis content, with Mastercard claiming that hypnosis, even in a fictional context, was nonconsensual on its face. "The Merchant must support a complaint process that allows for the reporting of content that may be illegal or otherwise violates the Standards and must review and resolve all reported complaints within seven (7) business days. In the event that such review yields evidence of illegal content, the Merchant must remove that content immediately" READ: Mastercard mandates that platforms which support it only give platforms seven business days to review and resolve reports, which would give artists only seven business days to appeal and respond to them. These standards are egregious and near impossible to adhere to at scale. Consider that GDPR provides platforms 30 days to review and respond to requests for user data and deletion as a point of comparison. "The Merchant must only permit content uploads from verified content providers and must have a robust process for verifying the age and identity of the content provider, which includes the review and validation of a government-issued identification and steps to ensure that the government identification is in the possession of, and belongs to, the content provider. The use of a third-party vendor that specializes in the validation of government identifications is recommended." READ: Mastercard requires platforms and merchants to perform age and identity verification for vendors/artists and consumers, **regardless** of laws and regulations around identity verification in that region.
