Whenever you see one of these stories you learn: it was acquired by private equity, it took on debt to pay the new owners dividends, it raised prices to pay off the debt. Every time.

Corporate employees were told today is their last day of employment.

@vivaldibrowser.bsky.social Sync is down, and as of this morning it's affecting me too... But all my cookies, payment info & saved passwords are missing locally too. Is this expected? Have I lost all this data permanently or will it come back when sync comes back?

Huh!
One of the most important issues in the video game industry right now? Team sizes.

Countless veteran game developers, sick of teams swelling into the hundreds or thousands, are going smaller. It's *the* story to watch.

After Era of Bloat, Veteran Video-Game Developers Are Going Smaller
Thanks in part to the growing accessibility of powerful game-making tools, pared-down studios are proliferating

- has diagrams explaining how wind works
- is now funded
- still won't pay my bills (but YOU could change that, maybe)

The insidious thing about "if you make art for money it's tainted by commercialism" is that it's not an argument that obscure writers are artistically pure.

It's an argument that only the wealthy can be artistically pure, because only they have the freedom to always prioritize Art.
Why not both? I write what I want because I want to write them, and I write them in a way that makes them easy to sell (me to publishers and publishers to readers). It's not an either/or thing, or doesn't have to be.

That the Tories have managed to convince themselves that carrying on as normal and drilling for more oil is part of reaching net zero is a neat trick.

Not a national emergency effort to move to renewables in the face of a catastrophic situation. Not doing what is actually required, no, not that.
Cause and effect. We aren't subject to some unknowable, massive unstoppable meteor. What's happening is due to active, effortful human decisions to worsen reliance on fossil fuels when we should be putting 100% of time, money and effort into erasing fossil fuels from society.
