I've been feeling down on my writing lately. Mainly bc its a first draft and it's such a mess. It's FINE, but still disheartening so I took a break to read for a week. Turns out, reading a book with writing I hate was the motivation I needed to come back to my own book and admire my own words.

A few months ago I dumped all SM except this one. My mental health is better and I'm writing a lot more. The downside? I have nowhere to scream about how fucking terrified I am of my WIP. My Imposter Gremlin is getting really good scaring me away from it and I need someone to cheer me on.

AMERICAN RAPTURE by @ceejthemoment.bsky.social was one helluva ride. I raged, I cringed, I cried, and by the end, I felt hope. This book hollowed me out and filled me back up again, and it's everything I adore about horror. This is easily one of my favorite books of the last five years.

When I was a librarian our local gov threatened to cut our funding over a very stupid reason an the way we got out of that was just HOW many people showed up to town halls to shout about it. They just got exhausted of having to deal with people. That lesson holds today -- show up for your library!

Libraries kept me safe when I was a kid. A place to spend afternoons learning and reading without being yelled at or hurt. When my son was born, we spent whole days at the library, and when he ditched school for the 1st time, I found him curled up in the Teen section of the library. This is tragic.

Just finished final revisions on one novel a couple of weeks ago and just started a brand new novel this week. It seems I hate myself.
Monthly reminder: Many people have a book in them, but it takes a special kind of freak to leave the Land of Laziness, cross the Plains of Procrastination and Insecurity Mountain, find the Blade of No One Made You Do This, and use it to cut your chest open and yank that book out.

While it feels gross to celebrate anything right now, I am so proud of myself for finally finishing an R&R that was requested in Oct '23. '24 was one family crisis after another and I thought I'd never get back to this ms. But I dug deep, worked hard, and sent it off today! I deserve a beer!
