ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Sometimes I think people who dislike cats behave how people pretend vegans do. "How do you know someone doesn't like cats? Don't worry, they'll tell you!" It's so strange to make part of your personality the dislike of a small furry animal that mostly minds its own business

This is a heartbreaking read, and really serves to highlight all of the ways our institutions continuously fail vulnerable young people, minor offenders, drug addicts, and how in fact the system is basically a pipeline from one of those things to the next.
When I met Craig he was 13 and homeless. I still thought his life might turn around. I was tragically wrong
The long read: I knew he was running away from something. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered the truth

I think that the BBC clearly has issues that desperately need addressing, but it cannot be overstated how valuable an impartial journalistic body is in principle. The BBC needs to have its independence restored so it can properly hold power to account.
🎯 Davey is spot on. "We can have criticism of the BBC, but within that, we need to recognise how valuable an institution it is [and how] precious to our country. And that's one of the reasons why people like President Trump and Nigel Farage, want to undermine the BBC." 👏🏽~AA

In 2010, a scientist argued that 2.1 billion-year-old African specimens showed complex life appearing 500 million years ahead of schedule. His critics say they are — literally — fool's gold. At stake? The question of when and how complex life arose at all.

Controversial evidence hints that complex life might have emerged hundreds of millions of years earlier than previously thought—and possibly more than once

He absolutely hates them.
Trump on President Xi: "During the meeting, he's here, and he's got about 6 people on each side. And every one of those people were at attention. And I made a comment to one of them and it got no response. And President Xi didn't let him. I said, I want my cabinet to behave like that."

School pupils are to be taught how to tackle conspiracy theories, spot 'fake news' & root out misinformation. The Daily Mail, ajudged by Wikipedia to be an unreliable new source, is furious. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out why.

Literally what is he talking about
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"

Wow - those are quite phenomenal headlines given the details of the story.

Ahh look, he’s just a ‘nerdy’ guy. No harm done.

You need to scroll down to paragraph 13 of the Sky piece to find the full story!

When you moan that ethnic minorities “won’t integrate” and then complain that TV adverts show integrated, mixed-race families, you’re not defending British culture — you’re just proving Schrödinger’s racism: minorities are wrong whether they fit in or not.

@pftompkins.bsky.social Just got done reading yet another thread of you unashamedly being a passionate, principled guy. I loved your work on BoJack, I think you're a really funny guy, and every time someone whose work I enjoy turns out to also be a good person it makes the world brighter. Thanks!

@robinince.bsky.social Nothing interesting to say except to see you on BlueSky posting in a way that validates my perception of you as an intelligent, affable and thoroughly decent guy, especially in a media landscape that is so often filled with the opposite, has brought a smile to my face!

I sometimes worry I exaggerate the collective madness of our media but the people who cheered Brexit, Boris Johnson & Liz Truss's mini-budget are now applauding Kemi Badenoch's speech. 'Parallell universe' doesn't come close. I suppose her not falling over is a win of sorts for them at the moment.

It always baffles me how much we ignore the role oppression and alienation play in radicalisation. Hamas is only able to recruit in such large numbers because of the desperation of the populace. ISIS is able to recruit British Asians by exploiting their desire to belong because we alienate them.
