We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
I came across *the* example I have been hammering with these food delivery robots.

A man with a mobility aid is forced to step aside because there is not room for him because the robot will not make room for a person (esp. those with a mobility aid who need addditional room)

Every facet of generative AI has made my professional life worse, without question, but THIS specific aspect has been driving me NUTS.

Clients, who have made me toil for weeks over indescribably small details, are now approving & producing in-house commercial artwork that looks like a fever dream.
I feel the clients now using GenAI to do stuff and going "good enough" when they used to nitpick at every last detail is due to them finding out all those nit picky changes take time and work they cant be bothered to put in.

You know, the main value of this place is basically just that it’s an alternative to the biggest bar in town that started catering mainly to nazis but that keeps being undermined by how any time you see the here staff they’re all wearing Hugo Boss uniforms.

suggesting we "fill" archival silences, the absences left where the voices buried under the historical record should be, with genAI extrapolations also based on that same historical record that buried those voices in the first place, is a grotesque form of epistemic violence.

But more seriously, and I think egregiously, is the use of a phrase for signaling power. One doesn't get the sense that those who invoke "archival silences" in the context of GenAI have heard of Touillot, much less read him. Instead, the phrase has been emptied of meaning and is just sloganeering.

To propose that GenAI can compensate for "archival silences" perverts Trouillot's work. It's is a contradiction to say that a product whose logic exacerbates power imbalances--creating a most-likely guess based on the existing record--can restore absences that are the product of those imbalances.

This isn't about Eurovision, it's about Israel getting away with committing genocide because THERE ARE NEVER ANY CONSEQUENCES. They should be untouchable by now. Everybody needs to walk the fucking walk.
Eurovision has allowed Israel to compete in 2026.

Ireland, Spain, Slovenia, and the Netherlands have pulled out of the competition following the decision.

this also helps solidify a class divide in disability rights. Often, "proving" you are disabled requires a clinical report - and those are often very expensive. In many countries (even some with public health) they are not covered for adults...which means you effectively have to buy accommodations.

This mindset of scarcity and elitism are prime feeders of capitalism and exploitation. If we actually want a world where people thrive, we build one that is accessible to and usable by ppl no matter their age, disability, gender, or other factors.

But that doesn’t make billionaires money 🤷🏻‍♀️

Disability scholar here once again to boost an excellent thread.

By forcing ppl to prove a need for accommodations, to “prove” a disability, we’re implying that disability is a flaw rather than evidence of biodiversity/diversity. The premise is built on ableism. Universal design is the antidote.
Having to identify oneself as disabled to access accommodations is, on its own, a huge barrier to getting many disabled people the accommodations they need.

Then, what if we trusted that if people use an accommodation, that they’re doing it because it’s reasonable to them? The more neutral and abundant accommodations are, the more disabled people will actually get what they need. If able-bodied people happen to benefit too, so much the better.
