So my book about Howard Zinn’s outsized life comes out August 2026. That’s now official. If you want me to come to your bookstore/library/community center/house party to talk about Zinn’s life and and what teaches us about how to beat back the bastards, please email edgeofsports@gmail.com

Saw #NBC was crediting Myles Garrett with an " #NFL record" 19 sacks through 12 games. In the '87 strike season Reggie White had 21 sacks through 12 games (which was all the non-strikers played that year). Another way of punishing them for walking a picket line, I guess. #Browns #Eagles

If his Philadelphia #Eagles didn't beat the Eastern College All-Stars in a 1937 preseason game, owner Bert Bell promised to jump off the Camden Bridge. "I'll not only do it," he said, "but I know seven of my men who will do the same thing." Bell stayed dry. Philly won 14-6.

It isn't just that #Bears HOF tackle George Musso didn't wear a helmet for most of his #NFL career, he didn't even wear one in practice. Here he is preparing with his helmeted teammates for the 1934 game against the College All-Stars. That's Red Grange with the ball.

Always fun to see an #NFL player with a letter on his jersey instead of a number. H is center Ted Mitchell of the 1929 Orange Tornadoes. The photo ran in the Philly Inquirer after the Frankford Yellow Jackets beat Orange 10-0 in the season finale. The Tornadoes just had to be different. 😂

In 1934, the #Steelers' second season, somebody asked owner Art Rooney how the ticket sale was going. "I don't know about the sale," he said, "but the [free] passes are going like hell."

His staff will now try to find a wrestling crowd that's more sympathetic.
"I've never heard a president booed this loudly in my life."

The #NFL has had only one 5-3 game in its history -- a century ago. So I'm totally up for another. #Steelers #Chargers

Jonathan Taylor gained 286 yards from scrimmage in the #Colts' OT win over the #Falcons today -- 244 rushing, 42 receiving. Only 10 RBs in #NFL history have racked up more in a single game -- and nobody's done it more than once. Here's the list:

There's going to be lots more of this before he nods off for good. He'll try to befoul the country as much as he can with his name.

Re: The Sauce Gardner trade
The #Rams traded HOF CB Night Train Lane to the Chicago #Cardinals in 1954 after just two seasons. Lane had already set an #NFL season record, which still stands, by intercepting 14 passes as a rookie in '52. He had 51 more picks to go (and finished with 68).

This right here is THE Diane Ladd scene. "Money doesn't mean anything to me, Mr. Gittes."
RIP to one hell of a woman & a peerless actress. #DianeLadd

Usually for something like this to happen -- or anything close -- there has to be a massage table involved.
One thought as we wait for the trade deadline to pass:

When was the last time a player on his rookie contract inked a big extension and was traded less than three months into the following season?

He was mad as hell & wasn't going to take it anymore. We've all been there.
Commanders LB Frankie Luvu has been suspended without pay for one game for repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players, including during Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

At this point you have to ask yourself: How many of these dollars will Terry McLaurin ever see from the #Commanders? The first half-season is already shot to hell, and if they can "disappear" him in the offseason, for any measurable return, I've gotta believe they will. Hope he enjoyed his hold-in.

If the #Commanders front office doesn't try to trade at least a few of the deck chairs on their Titanic this week, the fans should sue them for malpractice -- or for impersonating Vinny Cerrato.

No sense of urgency with this #Commanders offense -- and that includes Kliff Kingsbury, who most broadcasters talk about like he's Issac Newton.

When the #Lions' Glenn Presnell kicked a 54-yard FG in 1934 to set an #NFL record, it lasted 19 years. The next record (56) took 17 years to break, & the one after that (63) took 43! Now . . . Cam Little is the 3rd kicker to break it in the last 12 years. #Jaguars

Caleb Williams: 280 passing yards, 3 TD passes, 1 receiving TD. The only other QB in #NFL history to do those 3 things in a single game is Nick Foles in Super Bowl 52 vs. the #Patriots. #Bears

The #Bengals are only the 2nd team in #NFL history to score 38+ points in consecutive games and lose both games. The other is the '66 #Giants (72-41 to Washington & 49-40 to Cleveland). What a disaster.
