No matter how hard people try to convince us having empathy is wrong,

it is right.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that diversity is a weakness,

it is a strength.

No matter how hard people try to convince us that love is limited,

it is unlimited.

I was excited to experience some sunlight in Santa Fe. Took a short stroll in the morning, while it was still pretty cool. Turns out the sun is a deadly lazer.

Dear all,

Helen passed away at 13:21 local time. Helen would not have wanted us to be sad for a long time. All they wanted was to be remembered. They looked forward to being rid of pain and to being at rest. Helen took great comfort in you, their friends and readers.

This is why you’re the dumbest motherfucker alive if you’re an academic who tries to ‘address their concerns’ these people don’t want to have a principled conversation about the appropriateness of diversity statements, professor, they want to destroy your job. You cannot meet them halfway.
There is like some abstract notion that they are attacking universities because they want to pressure them over wokeness or whatever but that’s backwards. The base wants universities shut down. That is the explicit goal, they will tell you it openly if you ask them and listen.

The pact of the federal govt with universities was not a handout. It was a strategic decision to boost US leadership in technology, defense, and health. And it paid dividends. In tech, internet, in cancer drugs (for example), No other sector has invested in high risk high reward ideas like US govt.

Judge Session: I see no evidence of risk or danger of any kind. The court orders ICE to release Rümeysa Öztürk from custody IMMEDIATELY. She is free to return to her home in Massachusetts. Also free to travel within Mass and VT. I'm not going to restrict her travel, because I see no danger of flight

More political meddling at NIH:

I'm told that multiple (2-4ish) members of the Boards of Scientific Counselors, which oversee intramural research, have been kicked off the boards before their term expires.

No explanation given, but the thought is that these were folks who cared about DEI.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

In a new study, we analyze millions of citation sentence pairs to measure citation fidelity and how it varies depending on authors’ engagement with prior literature.
