Does anyone do a bourbon-barrel-aged imperial stout advent calendar? (They should!)

Failing that, champagne!

I contain multitudes. (Of booze, apparently... 🥂)
everything is bonkers right now and we need a timeline cleanse. let’s play a game. if I handed you a blank check but you could ONLY spend it on an Advent calendar, what absurdly pricy collection of little treats are you buying yourself?

This weather is making my knee ache, and I don't remember ever getting an arrow in it, but I did play a lot of netball in my teens and I'm given to understand that's more or less the same thing... 😢

What outstanding advice. (As one often enjoys from @melissacaruso.bsky.social!) Embrace the edit. Thrive in the edit. Take the raw marble of your writing and turn it into the David it can truly be! (I love the edit. I yearn to be done with this first draft so I can leap joyously into the edit!)
And with advice on writing- don’t leave your writing as it starts, think about how cool it could be. Don’t leave it at the magikarp stage. Do not fear the edit, embrace the edit.

NOW I'm lifting a glass. Love to see it. 🥂
Coming out of the horserace long weekend with a deep need to have a long nap and maybe another weekend, but I guess I only gotta slog through three days to make that happen. Anyway, lifting a glass--or at least my coffee cup--in the general direction of New York and wishing for excellent things...

This. 100% this. I am here for the lack of algorithm feed. I am here to see the people I follow. That is the entire point, for me.
I will aggressively ignore all changes to the timeline until they pry the following feed from my cold dead hands

give me reverse chronological or give me death
“As users ‘dislike’ posts, the system will learn what sort of content they want to see less of. This will help to inform more than just how content is ranked in feeds, but also reply rankings.”

This plus conversations I have been having recently about books (with worldbuilding I felt great or bad, and which I've seen described as the opposite) is all really making me think about how broad the term of "worldbuilding" really is. It covers all the stuff listed here and more! I have Thoughts.
What's something you've read recently that had really excellent worldbuilding? (Define "worldbuilding" as broadly as you like--fresh-feeling magic, science, or social systems; vividly drawn spaces, creatures, vehicles, and people; complex and coherent cultures, ecologies, or ideologies.)

I have no many cynical answers for this. (Alchemy that actually works! A cop who can maybe be redeemed! Some of the rich and privileged actually have a conscience and try to fix things!)

More seriously, probably that the Burnished Ciy "demon" plane of reality is wet, and the angels are fiery?

Is it even a night out with Mr Dee if he doesn't make friends with the bartender and end up getting a pour from the weirdest bottle in the display?

There's a small ringtail possum having a fight with two crows in my yard, and on the one hand he's just a little guy and I sorta want to save him, but on the other hand the possums massacre my garden every spring so I'm faintly on the side of the crows, but also, MY GUY WHY ARE YOU AWAKE?

Sure, the weather's warming up, not exactly stout temperature, but it's my first grown-up night out in a while and this is a "Biscoffee stout" so how could I resist? (By Drop Project, at Whitehart Lane.)

oooh, the Burnished City trilogy should smell like booze, mint tea, and a disquieting hint of sulphur... 🥂🍵😈
What would *your* book smell like if you engaged in a mega weirdo scented pages promotional campaign?

This morning we needed to explain the French Revolution to the kid, and as Mr Dee was saying "most of the population were just labouring for the wealth of a very few", I was nodding and going, hmm, isn't that interesting, what an unusual and not at all relevant situation...
