Nojima says that after FFVII came out he got sort of rattled by people writing stuff online like "Flashbacks are so hackneyed," so with VIII he hardly used any at all. But then maybe as a rebound, X ended up having tons of flashback scenes. (Famitsu, 2021)

One of the reasons why *I think* FFVII became so beloved is because despite the entire party having canonical names; you as the player are still able to name Cloud whatever you wanted to. As a 10 year old in a pre-internet world, that gave me an entirely different connection to the game.
In 2021, Nojima said with VII and VIII, the characters were vessels for reflecting the players' emotions in-game. With X, he aimed to make sure the characters could stand on their own even as players identified with them. That's a concern he's still dragging into FF7R. [1/3]

In Norse mythology, Nidhögg is a dragon who lives in the main spring of Niflheim, responsible for punishing the spirits of murderers. Nibelheim’s inn in FFVII Rebirth - located by the water tower - is called the Nidhogg Hotel, where Sephiroth stays before slaying the townsfolk.

I want to recommend SaGa to more people, but after checking the series out earlier this year; I totally understand why they're so niche.
