Ireland has approved plans to permanently implement a basic income program that will support up to 2,200 artists.

A cost-benefit analysis found that for every €1 invested, society receives €1.39 back.

Officials from other countries are now expressing interest in the program.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

This is my regular reminder to everyone that jstor is open to the general public now; a free account there will give you access to 100 papers a year.
regrettably if you try to point this out online you'll get yelled out by 79208 journalists going OH SO YOU WANT JOURNALISTS TO STARVE??? even if you're, say, a journalist yourself, and point out that while there are clearly no easy answers, the status quo isn't exactly working for society

Love @lauralippman.bsky.social's books but equally love her short-form writing (check out Summer of Fall if you haven't already). This piece is an excellent example why.

(Get ready for some quiet gut-punches.)

Graham Greene was the first celebrity I ever interviewed. I was so nervous and he was SO, so kind. Every time I'd see him on screen after that I'd have a tiny flashback to that interview, even if the character he was playing was evil (hi Malachi Strand!)

What an actor. What a career.

I lived in LA during Covid. It's heartbreaking to see what's happening to the city that kept me so safe. Sending all the love. ❤️
For SoCal friends,

Can't wait for the start of season 7, and by that I mean, WHERE IS MONICA??

This. I do not understand the, "Many people think I'm an asshole/rapist/drunk/misogynist, but my Mom says they're wrong." mentality.
If your mother has to go to on national television to defend your character, you have no character worth defending. This is a hard, unassailable rule of being a grown-ass man.

This. I missed bookstores so much during Covid.
Sure, Amazon may be "convenient", but have you ever spent a rainy day perusing a quaint bookstore?

I've never heard of a peach dumpling, but this looks soooo good and I can't wait to try it!
I wish I had a pic of the peach dumplings I made (with hubby as sous chef). They were divine with BB Homemade Vanilla ice cream.

I broke the Black law of not trying new stuff on holidays but only bc we visited my in-laws & this was a dessert. I also brought back up pie lol

I need to be invited to this.
Love this idea! "The Prado has been bringing novelists to live in an apartment overlooking the museum. They stay 3 to 6 weeks, but they are not expected to write there. All they have to do is look at the art and draw inspiration from what they see." @museodelprado.es
