Long time no hassle… but you know I think you’re brilliant… is there an easy way to stalk morphology and syntax digitally in the NT, eg counting simple imperfects vs periphrastic ones? Not like I’m writing an article or anything…

This is my first post for WiT and I really enjoyed writing it. Would love some feedback.

Two years ago I ran some exercises on translating the NT with ChatGPT. I thought I'd see what had changed, and I was fascinated by the result: cressidaryan.wordpress.com/2025/04/17/c...
ChatGPT and translating the New Testament: two years on
Two years on, how has ChatGPT changed? I went back through the process of my last post, and these are the results and my responses. I first asked ChatGPT to translate the text of 1 John 2:1-6 into …

It's not typical Maundy Thursday matter but, given that today we are invited to reflect on our propensity to choose betrayal, fear, and self-interest over the love and selfless service offered to us all in Christ, this thread feels rather timely.
In the year ending June 2024, UK police recorded 69,184 rapes. (It’s likely this represents c. 1 in 6 of the rapes actually committed.) In 2023/24 there were 2,283 prosecutions for rape, and 1,220 convictions. And c. 11,900 rape cases are currently waiting to go to court, many for more than 2 years.

Finding out a chapter I had submitted a proposal for really is going ahead, when I knew I'd had a particularly creative idea for it and was really hoping I'd get to write it. Hurrah! Yes I have a book and two other articles to finish first. It's okay. #TinyJoys

I've spent the last week in Dubai, which prompted some reflections on Palm Sunday and landscape, so I've written my first theological blogpost. Feedback welcome... cressidaryan.wordpress.com/2025/04/15/o...

Content and Trigger warnings... some perspectives from Classicists. I'm well aware this is a "hot" topic, and encourage cordial debate around a collection of pieces I commissioned for @cucdbulletin.bsky.social on the topic: cucd.blogs.sas.ac.uk/files/2025/0... @cucd.bsky.social

I've added another half dozen summer schools to my blog. There's so much going on! It's wonderful: cressidaryan.wordpress.com/summer-schoo...
Summer Schools in Latin, Greek, and related subjects
Back in July 2020 I put up a blogpost on Summer Schools 2020. This page rounds up the available summer schools on an ongoing basis. Inclusion here is not an endorsement. 26th January 2025: the next…

Braille music transcription... I'm writing up a report on music score accessibility. Does anyone know anyone who can do Braille music transcription? Yes I have ABRSM and RNIB guidance on stuff too. I'll blog what I can of it (minus the specific stuff for work!).

I have a strong desire to end my book concl as "so here's a summary of why I think Sophocles (&Plato) matter to understanding the New Testament and indeed the difference between Jerome, Erasmus, and Luther... but you know what? The tragectory continues & here's how it affects your teaching too."

trying to finish my book. Remembered I'd done a podcast about it: religionoffthebeatentrack.substack.com/p/translatio... (I got the date wrong, 1529). If anyone fancies sending feedback, it would be very welcome!

Thank you so much to the people who signed up to support us over the last couple of days. We literally couldn’t do it without you.

If just 9 more people pledge £10 a month it would cover our running costs for an entire year 🫢🥹
If you'd like to donate to us to help keep things going here, we have a Ko-Fi account for one-off and subscription donations 🫡

We don't receive any external funding and we're currently only at 2% of our baseline running costs goal for the year, so every little bit helps!

Does anyone know how I could find out how many dual termination examples there are in Homer (or indeed other Greek authors, especially Sophocles and Plato)?

Having had a look at the numbers, they haven't said it so I will... it takes about 30 people to chip in a fiver a month to let the Working Classicists team meet their 'here's how we'd like to run' operating costs.

Started watching "Boarders". Quickly realised it wasn't 8YO friendly and switched it off for child. But for me, wow. When I was 23 I taught in a school which had a scholarship very similar and it caused me much pain trying to care for those children. Dare I blog about my experiences?

Just got challenged on Twitter over whether suicide is a sin. Having had to deal with the JWs telling me that the very close friend I had who killed herself in their service was sinful. Please can any theology people I know pitch in to educate me better?
