Their function is to learn from the barriers, adapt, become the same, no threat, no threat. An infection. One by one, those barriers will sicken and die.
The Gallifreyan transduction barrier is actually a gauntlet of various devious barriers. My devices will not progress past the first of at least five barriers, but that is not their function.
