I love how the irridescence shows in the wings of this Jackdaw that we saw today. In summer the Jackdaws nest in holes like this, maybe they roost there in winter?

@imogenforster.bsky.social isn't this wee moth an absolute beauty?
Moth Advent 3. Back to Surrey mid-May for another evening on the heath, but on the way I stopped in Berkshire to scratch a long-time itch – Geoff! And he didn’t disappoint. Alabonia geoffrella isn’t just one of Britain’s most beautiful moths, it’s one of our most beautiful animals. #TeamMoth

🪽 Our swift population is in sharp decline. They've fallen by two thirds since 1995 and were added to the UK's conservation red list in 2020.

📨 But we have a simple, low-cost solution. Tell the government that now is the time to act to save our swifts.

It's Remembrance Day for Lost Species today, but few seem to mark it this year... Have we lost our ability to grieve, or tossed it away?
Remembrance Day
for Lost Species.
They're not lost,
though, are they?

Not misplaced.
Nor did they stray.
But tossed away
on the galaxy's sea.

We pushed them out,
like little lantern boats.
I hope they find their way.

Amazing today to see Grey Heron, Grey Wagtail, Dipper and Kingfisher all in the same small stretch of Edinburgh's Water of Leith. Most amazing was watching the Kingfisher dive, catch a fish then take it to a branch and eat it. No photos, unfortunately, but what a moment! @wolct.bsky.social
