Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

BREAKING: ‘This hurts’: UNL eliminates 4 programs despite faculty, student pleas
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln eliminates the Earth and atmospheric sciences 8-0, educational administration 7-1, statistics 7-1, textiles, merchandising and fashion design 7-1 programs.

There's probably a better way to word it, but the Democratic Party's motto for 2026 and beyond should be "Reconstruction 2.0" and the first move should be a new version of the Klan Act that puts Trumpism in the cross-hairs.
We Should Have Finished Reconstruction: A Brief History Of American Politics, 1865-2025
While the outcome should be clear from the plain text of the Constitution, the central project of this court and Administration, together, is to nullify the reconstruction amendments

it might seem surprising that the people who said “look, let trans people live their lives, but i have Reasonable Concerns about sports and toilets” aren’t up in arms about this, but what you have to remember is that those people who said that are liars who were lying

you've completely destroyed your credibility in the eyes of the american public for, what, maybe thirty years of very slim republican rule that ends with a corrupt old man who can't keep his eyes open on national television and barely knows what day it is. now what?

you just can’t behave indefinitely as a partisan political body without eventually inviting partisan consequence, and in trying to will the kingdom of donald trump into existence, i think the court has picked a very poor hill to die on
this is really it — this case isn't about the legitimacy of birthright citizenship or the 14th amendment, it's about the legitimacy of the court, and any ruling that doesn't uphold the former decides the latter
Counterpoint:

The Supreme Court lacks the authority to change the text of the Constitution.

So either it affirms the text or (further, and more completely) nukes its authority as Constitutional arbiter.

There’s no third option. Art III (courts) can’t just usurp Art V (amendments).

We're in an inter-constitutional moment not dissimilar to the Civil War period where we have to write a new constitution via constitutional convention or achieve a position whereby we overhaul the existing one (only possible in a post-Civil War type situation where the GOP is out of the picture).

anyway this isn’t a legally difficult question it is a politically difficult question for the conservative majority and the only thing we’re waiting to see is if they will ignore political pressure and follow the clear text of the constitution or bend to the president’s demands.

It may sound radical, but if one guy has so much wealth and power that he can use the large newspaper he owns to publicly threaten to ruin a service we all rely on, presumably as a bargaining tactic to get lower rates, we probably need to tax that guy until he can't do that anymore.

not sure this is a hot take. boozer, jiri welsh, luke jackson...
My hot take is that Paxson and Gund did more to doom LeBron 1.0 than Ferry and Gilbert
Both happened before Ferry but two things that actually happened that we don’t talk enough about are them not protecting Jason Kapono in the expansion draft and the Jiri Welsch trade.
