I have updated my wishlist for Christmas. 🎄😍
I want to get a little home gym going for when it's 7000 degrees in Sydney and too hot to walk outside so I can still do my hot girl walks.💗

The fact of the matter is that helping people costs money and that is just not popular with corporations that, for all practical purposes, own a vast number of congresspersons.

Richest country in the world with plenty of food in stores for everyone to eat and still waste half of it, but extremely unequally distributed food permission slips. And most people don't even question how wrong that setup is. As if it's okay to prevent access to what we need to live despite plenty?
As a disability advocate, I think it’s appalling how many people are fine letting disabled folks starve because they think “survival of the fittest” means we should die.

But here’s the thing… no one should be starving.

The richest country in the world can afford to feed everyone.

I'm asked all the time about the cost of universal basic income and often reply that the lack of UBI isn't free and that poverty actually costs us trillions of dollars a year that we pay for in all kinds of ways instead of UBI. Well, here's a study showing the lack of UBI also costs 9 years of life.
How Income Matters for Longevity
According to research, older adults in the lowest 20% of income die 9 years earlier than their wealthier peers. And 80% of households with older adults—or 47 million—are financially struggling or are ...

We have to stop talking about how we should simply remove tax concessions and incentives to property investors and start talking about how we should be redistributing the wealth of individuals who rely on the exploitation of others to build it. If not - 1/2

I highly recommend this beautiful piece written by Axel about his journey with masculinity. 🤍✨
I spent a good part of my adult life cultivating interests that felt appropriately masculine. Single malt whiskeys I couldn’t really afford, sports teams I followed with an intensity that, looking back, feels more than a little performative. Not that I didn’t enjoy these things, I genuinely did.

Good to hear talk of #JobSeeker being raised today. To more than the 67% it currently is of the aged pension. Acknowledging that poverty ends up costing a lot more than just the lives affected. We needed to start universal basic income in the 1970s when paychecks first decoupled from productivity growth. Second best time is now. And universal healthcare too. We must decouple survival from jobs and attach it instead to citizenship like we do voting. It's also 4-day week time. And PRCV.

A HUGE rural universal basic income pilot project is moving forward in South Korea and scheduled to launch next year. The plan is for everyone in 6 counties (out of 69) to receive a UBI of 150,000 won every month for 2 years, which is about equal to $200/mo in the US. 150k-270k people would get UBI!

When Universal Basic Income gets implemented, I know there's a good chance that I'll pay more in new taxes than receive in UBI, and I definitely will as part of @comingle.bsky.social, so I've already begun donating that % of my income to advancing UBI. If you support UBI, please consider joining me.

UBI means some pay more tax but most net ahead. Walk the walk now: align monthly giving with your likely net tax and help build the income floor.

Follow @bootstrapstv.bsky.social for all things Bootstraps UBI docuseries, but we did talk a bit about it recently and how the first two episodes are mostly done and have been submitted to Sundance and SXSW. Our hope is for it to debut at one of them next year after 10 years of work.
The Bootstraps basic income docuseries is still on its way and now being submitted to film festivals

They always say the same basic thing. They are always wrong. And we should do what we have always done and do the thing that needs doing anyway, which this time around is universal basic income and healthcare, and a 4-day workweek.
