Robert Redford (RIP) survived a childhood bout of polio though bedridden for 2 weeks

In 2014, he directed a short film on the architecture and mission of La Jolla's Salk Institute—honoring founder Jonas Salk, inventor of the polio vaccine that has saved countless lives, and architect Louis Kahn

A true honor to have such great mentors and community! A milestone achieved through the collective support of fantastic scientists and leaders!
Congratulations to DOCTOR Consuelo Sauceda @consweeswee.bsky.social who today absolutely crushed her PhD defense in the David Gonzalez lab. Her dissertation applied proteomic approaches to understand host-pathogen interactions in IBD

Proud she will join our lab as a postdoctoral scholar August 1st!

A great evening celebrating ARCS San Diego Scientist of the Year, Dr. Knight.

Thank you for using your platform to shed light on the critical status of science. Training programs, critical to the upbringing of many great scientists, are at risk impacting the future of knowledge, innovation, & med.

I’m incredibly disappointed in NASEM. It seems that they’re prepared to forego established science to placate the lawless administration. The membership needs to let their leadership know that they won’t let politics interfere with science and health.
SCOOP: The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, arguably the nation's most powerful scientific organization, is bending to political pressure and removing terms like "health equity" from pending reports. Members are not happy. Story by me: www.statnews.com/2025/02/20/n...
National Academies is altering pending reports to appease Trump administration, some members say
Words such as “health equity” are being replacing with vaguer terms, and 100 members sent a letter of protest to NASEM leaders.

Healthy oceans, forests and grasslands thrive upon mutualistic symbioses among diverse tiny life forms

A diversity of beneficial mirobiota in our guts is critical for our growth, metabolism, development, immunity, and neurological function

Same can apply to human societies
