A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Patricia Smith did a 3 poem set at the Brooklyn Book Festival today that tore my face off.

End lines that made me audibly gasp. Also best dressed.

This!

Federal judges have done their best to push back, but Democratic representatives in Congress and elsewhere have not. Where is the action? Where is the utilization of the few checks and balances that do exist? Look who's not acting and ask why.
everything about the current moment was predictable

No lies spotted.

In the nonprofit space, this has been especially disheartening. I hope leaders take note.

If we coordinated to all bang pots and pans at our windows every day at 7 p.m. in praise of healthcare workers, we can coordinate to all scream NO MORE #ICE every day at 7 p.m. for the sake of our immigrant neighbors, yeah?

A horrifying statement published today by the Editorial Committee of the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.

"Without immediate intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die"

As Jews, we must be able to identify genocide when we see it. It's happened to us and it could again. This is why I'm so concerned that many do not see Israel's actions as genocidal. If the roles were reversed and we were in #Gaza now, you wouldn't call it genocide? If that's the case, we're doomed.

New political party in the UK! Seems like the time is now in the US... Obviously it's been decades too long of supporting the Democratic Party, time for something else for any of these politicians who claim to have integrity, now or never, not that I believe in politicians, but still💥
Today, after 14 years, I’m resigning from the Labour Party.

Jeremy Corbyn and I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other Independent MPs, campaigners and activists across the country.

Every human should see wild monkeys at least once.

For the same reason I think every dog should get to see wolves in the wild (safely) at least once in their life. An opportunity to put two and two together.

Tbh it's kind of gaslighting if we don't show them wolves. They deserve to know the truth.

This is a holocaust.

As a Jew, I can't tell the difference between Israelis and Nazis at this point.

As an American with free speech, I shouldn't be afraid to say this. But I am.

I speak on behalf of OUR shared ancestors. Listen to us. Listen to scholars, peacemakers, and the rest of the world.
This is one of the most sick, twisted, depraved massacres yet. Israel fired tank shells into a crowd of starving people waiting for food, killing over 50. They're not even denying it.

The footage of #ICE at immigration courts in #NYC jumping people IN PLAIN CLOTHES and kidnapping them is chilling. WE NEED TO ALLOW VIRTUAL HEARINGS. These places are unconscionable traps now.

I am scared, as a citizen, for myself. Who is next? #NYCMayor This is not a sanctuary city. It can be.

I too was blown away by how timely Descent of Alette is right now. The tyrant is capitalism and the billionaire class!

This series has been so rewarding and comforting, especially this episode, which I'm saving. 🙏🏻
Today, a second conversation about the late Alice Notley. The brilliant poet and critic Joyelle McSweeney joined me to talk about grief and life in the underworld in Notley’s extraordinary epic The Descent of Alette. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c...

I'd love to hear physicist @saraimari.bsky.social, who speaks so eloquently about assembly theory, in conversation with poet Joan Retallack, who writes about complex realism and composition as life. Very much the same wavelength, and the implications for how we think about writing are fascinating.

I am a poet because someone once showed me Alice Notley. She is my favorite poet. I will miss knowing that she is somewhere in the world, writing. Maybe she's now in Grace's Park, one of my favorite images of hers. That ephemeral place where poems are formed. #AliceNotley
