#WeekWithoutDriving off to a great start! Today I
- biked to work in downtown Minneapolis
- biked to The Local for a pint (or two 😄) of Guinness with my stunning girlfriend
- walked to the Dakota Jazz Club to see Hiromi (amazing show) with my cousin & his wife

Earlier this evening members of the public entered the Cedar Lake encroachment zone, starting from the south beach. Our leader was an 80 year old man named Jake, who's watched too many park board meetings for his own good. He let us know how many feet of public land was available in each "backyard."

“Safety strategies aren’t that hard: Slow drivers down, and separate vulnerable road users and drivers by time and space.

What makes actually implementing these strategies so challenging is our unwillingness to decrease motorist throughput or inconvenience drivers in the name of saving lives.”

Want a happy city? Build for bikes.

So pleased to see Minneapolis continuing to be on this list & can personally confirm: I am happier here than anywhere I've ever lived.

And a huge factor in that is my ability to live a less car dependent life with my family.
The Happiest Cities in the World are Also the Most Bicycle Friendly
The 2025 Happy City Index is in and the world's happiest cities are also some of the best places to ride a bike.

This excellent article by Ilse Griffin crystallizes so many of the reasons that I’ve become so happy walking, biking, and taking public transit more over the past few years. Amazing writing
How Driving Less Benefits Us: https://streets.mn/2025/07/29/how-driving-less-benefits-us/

Driving less provides personal benefits and societal ones. Less rushing means a more involved day-to-day.

What if… instead of dealing with toxic air every other week for the rest of our lives… we did something about this whole climate change thing?

I hate that my kids are growing up in a world literally & figuratively on fire.

They, and we, deserve better.

Blaisdell has yellow flex posts at intersections!

I am VERY excited about this. Thank you @minneapolismn.gov !

I hope they survive the rest of the summer & can be replaced as needed ongoing. I’ll be curious to see driver behavior w/ these - hopefully decent compliance.

Cars are SO loud.

The health impacts from noise pollution are not something an individual has control over preventing.

Due to forced car dependency, we also force higher risk of hearing loss, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, sleep issues, stress, memory impairment & childhood learning delays.
